New Basics

Why do I suddenly have this feeling I'm going to be disappointed with the new Basics.....

What? Satin finish, nice gradual ergonomic swept curve on the back of the handle. I like it. B7, please.

Well, the jury is still out. I was hoping for a smaller choil, as shown on B7 below on Will York’s pic, bringing the cutting edge closer to the handle for extra pressure, if needed. I hope B8 looks more like an old 7 rather than the 6 in that department.

Although that (tan) knife was made in the Basic style with M-INFI and Resiprene, and was often referred to as a Basic 6, I think the technically correct term for it was a "Euro 6". Looks like the Basic 6 being introduced in Atlanta is a bit trimmer. I've seen a measurement at .24" thick on the new one, and the one in the pic above was .26". So you may be pleasantly surprised at the new one. Also, the one above has a blade length of 6.75" and the new one in Atlanta I believe is 6.48" from what I've been told by a show attendee.

We'll see, wouldn't we? So far the new B6 looks pretty much the same.

I may just a bit be unreasonable here, but I think the old B7 is the prettiest, sexiest Busse knife yet, and I want the rest of them look like scaled down (or up) copies of Basic 7, that's all. :D

As With the recent ABS and BJ offerings, I don't think it would be unreasonable for choil options to be available. Fingers crossed!

The set will satisfy a lot of people who have been calling for a battlerat in INFI, and the various other first offerings from swamp rat.

So, since the b6 is about .25 I will assume the 8 and 10 are as well. Can anybody tell me how thick the 4 is?

Any idea on cost and thickness of the Basic 4? It's a must get, esp. if it's <$200 and 0.187 thick.

sure hope these are a regular offering at busse combat, and not a limited ganza only knife.

In one picture it did look thin. Is it that thin? Basically an ABA with res-c? Does it get better than that?

In this pic . . .

Traditionally the Basic's have all been .25 but at least the Basic 4 has retained an elf choil to maximise cutting edge availability ... personally I am with Big L on prefering a small choil on the larger Basic's too ... I use my Basic 9's as my main belt knife for my webbing and also it's twin for my daysack carry knife for fire prep ... and that little elf choil with it's true right angle edges throws a great shower of sparks off a fire steel ... nicely near the handle for control too and the same can be said for fine whittling on feather sticks ... the closer to the handle the edge is the better for me ... and this is a real blessing in artic sub zero conditions where you don't want to be using a choked up grip ... numb finger can so easily slip and receive disabling cuts through gloves in such cold weather ... but issues like that simply depend on how and where you intend to use the knife ... however for me I find the smaller riccasso and elf choil to be preferred on a knife like the Basic 9 where I want it to do the work of both a large and small blade combo ...

and the Basic 9 just works so well for me in that role ...

I sure hope it's 3/16" instead of a 1/4" but PeterPHWS may be right.

Yeah, I heard from another source that they were all .24" thick. But man, when I zoom in to that pic it sure looks thinner. I would love to have confirmation from somebody at the show though.

are the basic handles all the same size and thickness? only ask cuz I have a Dumpster Mutt Le and the handle is not as nice TO ME as the Battle Rat and Yardhook. The swamp and yards original Res-c is the bomb in my hands. anyone have pics of a Camp Tramp and Basic 7 side by side? thanks

I have long been a fan of 6" blades. I am probably gonna splurge on the entire set, but if I could have only one it would be the Basic 6.

The handles do look different than the one on my B11. Unless I am looking at the pics wrong it looks like they deleted the jimping box right before the guard.
