New Becker prices!

you can get the esee 4 for around 83 bucks.

to me the becker is not a bargain...still i like it and i will get one. but imo your statement was wrong. that's all there is to it.

Its all opinion. That esee 4 you priced right there is a darn good deal, comes with sheath and molle locks, not bad at all!

However, with micarta the becker wont come in much more then that PLUS it comes with two sets of grivory/zytel scales which are not loved by all but they work and are very tough. I for one dont need the micarta and wont be buying micarta for the new tweeners, the grivory/zytel will work perfectly on that knife for me. So I am glad I have the choice to save the $20-30 dollars. Its all opionion

After seeing the MSRP pricing in the other thread, these prices are about what I'd expect--Not "great", but not "bad" either.

$81.40

BK15_FP.jpg

$64.49

BK14HNDL_Orange_FP.jpg

$12.00

that's a great price for a saber-ground drop point bushcraft knife :D

I have to buy the first 5 things on that page.:) I'm happy to see these prices. That's not bad at all, especially for what you're getting. Kind of disappointed the Machax is coming with that nylon pouch sheath. I think I'd rather have something else. Same with the Tweeners, but oh well. Sheaths don't make a knife.

nobody, ever, likes the sheath they get :> it's like a rule or something...

Keep in mind too, when comparing to the ESEE-4, the tweeners are a brand new model.

I don't know for sure, but I'd bet the ESEE 4 wasn't selling for $83+ shipping when it was first released. Will the demand for tweeners ever be higher than right now? Probably non I'm guessing.

Wouldn't surprise me if the prices drop maybe a few dollars once they've been out for some time.

I kind of surprised to see that the price of the BK15 is the same as the BK16 and 17. I thought that it was going to cost a bit more because of additional grinds and its slightly larger size.
So basically they cost what a BK2 does. So I would say it is "reasonable" and "understandable" but not "cheap" or "economical".
I was hoping for between MK1 and BK2 territory (~$55), but this isn't "that" far off, and it does come with extra handles, so its not a total wash.

the MSRP thread said they'd be the same

Much better pricing than what was listed in another thread.
I didn't expect them to be cheap but was sorely shocked when I saw $100+ in the other thread.
Tomars is usually around Amazon pricing. So I'm all good.
Steve

the pricing you saw was MSRP as in "nobody pays MSRP" :> this is the current street price.

with an MSRP of $107.49 for all three tweeners and the BK2 for street $63 and the BK15/16/17 at street $64.50, that doesn't seem bad to me at all, considering:

o the new sheath iS VERY VERY VERY good, esp compared to the older nylon sheaths. i'm fondling one right now :) it's right up their with the SpecOps stuff, imho. double retention straps - double thick too, triple stitching on those with major reinforcing on the back - these will NOT rip out unless you gorilla it, nor will they scuff your handles like rivets might. double stitching on all the edges, belt loop opens and is secured with an overflap, velcro and a snap. two grommets up top, three below for 550 cord, top, middle, and bottom loops for securing other ways as well, and theres molle on the back, with a molle locking strap built in to secure you load. the storage pocket will hold a SAK pretty easily, or some other items. just stuffed a 3.5 inch Hogue EX-01 in there for giggles ;) fit and finish is GOOD. if you don't like this sheath, you must have higher standards than SpecOps or something ;)

o the knives... as well, i'm fondling a BK15, just over 10 inches, it's not a small knife (the BK5 is BIG)... $64ish? fair price to me. balanced. lively. the new zytel feels good, and solid. has a wee little stippled texture. i like it. the jimping is good and smooth. the pommel extends JUST enough for striking/batoning, and has a hole large enough for multiple strands of 550 cord, if that's your thing (like jump securing). this is a pre-production final copy, so it doesn't have the lasering, or new coating, so i can't speak to that yet.

it's a pretty solid package.

i think the price is fair. sure, we all wish they were $45, but really? the neckers are $35-38.

these will sell quite well. you will see other vendors selling them for more too i would guess, because demand will be high.

they will probably sell out the first batch fast. there might even be delays getting more. we've seen it before when demand far exceeded expectations :)

buy now. buy Becker.

well, April 1st for the Tweeners.

in theory, Feb 1st for the Machax... which is an entirely OTHER squee...

this is Tomar's stock photo of the sheath by the way: as well as Tomar's stock images:

Anyone else click on any of the blades there at tomars?

In the description it says the additonal set of handles that come with them are "green"...

wait they come with black and green handle sets? thought it was black and tan handle sets

i'm more than sure they will be tan, tan, and tan.

not sin

not cos

not green...

they might look greenish in some photographs. they're tan.

this rumor stops here now :) i don't want someone saying six months from now "i thought they were green"... :D i will just mock them :>

Yea, they must have taken a look at the catalog and assumed they were OD Green... because lets be honest, in the catalog, its hard to tell that they are tan.

And no, I wasn't thinking it would be tan, I just found it amusing, sorry for the confusion :(.

only reason i suspected was because Tomars KA-BARs says they will come with both green and black handles...odd but whatever....
"This knife comes with both black and green Zytel handle sets that are interchangeable, hardware, as well as a heavy duty front pouch Cordura sheath."

i called Tomar and left a message indicating that he had green, instead of Tan. so, we'll see if you can fix that soon, and eliminate the confusion.

good catch, noticing it. would probably upset people if they thought they were getting green.

coyote tan. just like in Moose's pictures :)

they need better color balancing in the catalog photographs, OORRRRRRR perhaps a monitor calibration ;) but i agree, they tend to lok a most unattractive shade of olive brown green.

deserts. coyote tan. molle. you think they are marketing for something specific? :>

I can't believe the complaint on price...it's craziness!

They look awesome and I'm so excited about getting hold of one....however, I will have to fork out $40 shipping to get one to the UK, with the potential of further duty and handling charges, essentially doubling the cost of the knife :(
(Now that is a gripe-worthy point! ;p)

You my American cousins have it good!!

ALSO, i might be getting to picky...but they also say this. "Knife is made exclusively in Olean, New York U.S.A. and proudly blade stamped with the BKT/KA-BAR brand."

people may want to know its laser etched now instead of stamped. but they may be using "stamped" as a general term.

]You my American cousins have it good!!

and you guys can buy Mora's for $5? :) i'm surprised they let you guys have knives at all over there :)

what you need to do is just get a group buy together, send some lads over on vacation, get some knives, use them, and mail them home disassembled as "used parts/gifts" with little or no value attached. voila! no VAT ;) i've heard of many clubs doing this for hard to find japanese items.

Too many guys like skystorm and azwelke (and many others on here) making awesome sheaths. I say let's raid them all and solve this problem. :D

oh, it's true :)

people would probably gripe about getting even the "wrong style" high quality sheath, and they certainly would not want to pay for it from the factory.

it would also bump the price up a lot.

to para-phrase Ritter again on sheaths "you can't please everybody"

these sheaths on the Tweeners are the best i've seen on a production knife, in a long long long time, if ever. they strongly remind me of the Eagle Industries sheaths, which, imnsho are the Platinum/Iridium/Gold standard for a factory sheath. amazing.

The sheath reminds me of a way better new and improved "non-leather" pilot survival knife sheath, made by Ontario. With its small front pocket for a stone or something else perhaps. I feel many years down the road this knife might be a big collectors item.
