why put Vaseline on the cotton? Burn longer? Is there other products that work like Vaseline that can be found around the house?

Triple antibiotic ointment seems to be of the same consistency. Would that work? How about vapor rub? Just trying to think of other ideas.
 
Hey Clich try this.

Take two cotton balls put vasoline on only one, go outside and light them both up at the same time and see what happens....

Not sure about vapor rub or ointment, I think it needs to be petroleum based.
 
Clich, just go buy some Vaseline. Nobody's going to think you're plotting to manhandle your monkey. :D

Somebody here at BFC claims to have invented firestraws. I don't remember who.
I've been making them for years. Flexxx is right. Fast food places (I like the red ones from Sonic) have the best, large-diameter straws.
 
O I have Vaseline, but its for a special time when my wife is feeling generous and may or may not have had too much to drink, and starting a fire and survival is no where near as important as those times.....

Popped a zip tie shooting my sling bow this morning. If I hadn't been wearing combat crocs, I'd have sustained an injury. Somebody remind me to post some pics.
 
Raining (finally) so no action shots today. Here's the sling bow. Standard Dave Canterbury mods with a whisker biscuit, heavy bands (shortened 1 inch) and golf tees glued into the arrow.
Shoots great with carbon arrows and 100gr. field points. Fun.

And here is the mod I did for bow fishing. Molded a Tee with a heat gun to snap on over the handle. Took off the nock, drilled the arrow out and epoxied in a tee.

Very awesome old man! How does that arrow compare to a regular arrow? Does the lack of fletching make it fly worse?
