NEW Benchmade 7505-131 and 7505-132

$1200 is Rockstead territory. But the carbon fiber accents look great. I like my Benchmades like I like my Spydercos, under $300.

Also, what does a full custom Sibert cost? When the mid tech out prices the custom, things get really screwy. Its a beautiful knife, but not as much as the Sibert custom I just saw on another site.

I have a question: what exactly does the term 'mid-tech' mean? I've never heard of it. (Middle of the road? Not great but not bad?)

Good one. I've been continuously into knives well before this forum even existed. I had Benchmades and Busses back then too. Only recently (relatively) have I ever heard the term.

I thought, "what are these newbies talking about with this mid tech crap?"

After months of seeing/reading it, I think I just repeated the term for the first time in this thread.

I gathered that it replaced the older term for Reeve knives, "hand built production."

I vote to completely abolish the term, although that will never happen.
Who coined the term anyway?

Back on topic, after watching the video a few times, I wonder how long that lock up will last with the auto function.

I know its been done many times before, I think Greg Lightfoot made some a decade or more ago. I'm just stuck on the Axis lock I think.

To me, mid-tech means a hand ground blade by the orig maker & scales built by someone else.
I like those mid-tech's as it allows you to get into an almost custom at 1/2 the price.
With the blade hand ground by the actual maker.
Its a term thats been around for 10+ yrs, but is being used more and more as time goes on.
The only issue I have with the term "mid-tech" is there seems to be no "one" correct definition.
BTW I believe the (100) 131's have shipped.

The BM sear & lock on this knife as well as dry fire protection are very solid.

Greg's D/A LCC's have held up great. They are some of the most favored knives in my collection.
Have had one as a user for over 10 yrs. No issues at all.

Well in that case, I'm still in for one. I do have to ask though, what is dry fire protection? And what is the sear?

I know nothing about how the DA's internal parts. It sounds like a firearm with dry fire protection and a sear. :)

I guess the sear would be like in a firearm? Except It releases the blade?

That DOES help. They also call 'em 'Hybrids', which is easier to understand. ;) Good example; a friend in Holland has a knife designed by Sal Manaro that's made by Boker that is a production knife but looks virtually identical to the custom. So now I know. Thanks for the link to Ken's 'splanation!

Most welcome my friend.

I think the easiest way to see them is half custom / half production. Parts that came off the line but had some hands on fitting and attention or custom elements.

This one
(7505) might be considered one of the 1st Mid tech knives from a production company?

Here are a couple Brend Marauder's I would rate as Mid tech. (HG blade by Walter)
(The Mamba being a custom proto)

I have always thought there was a huge pent up market for quality bolster release D/A's.
Got into collecting Vero Beach Microtech LCC's in 2001/2002 and MT Terzuola's in 2004.
Since then, nothing has really come close in quality bolster release D/A's.. Till now! :D
Ever since Mike showed me these protos in the Hotel room the day before blade I have been thinking about this one.
I really like this model, but even if its not your cup of tea, just imagine this mechanism on your favorite BM folder.
And yes, a 2 stage D/A Axis mechanism is in the works. And works really well!
BM is waking up and getting it. Looking forward to all the great blades to follow.

blablabla

That sounds very interesting.

This new one is a winner.
I am glad to see D/A's are having a revival.
Variety is a good thing.

This is not cool. I've been spending entirely too much money on toys lately.
Now I want both D/A's and more info about the D/A Axis knife. No light at the end of the tunnel, just more knives.

I would totally 'do' one of the those as I have always admired Shane Sibert's original Pocket Rocket design. I also applaud BM for their continued use of Bohler's superb M390 steel. As interesting as the DA feature is, it does make it more problematic to acquire one of these, due to the complicated legalities surrounding autos. So I will probably wait on the regular opening version, hopefully appearing soon! I also hope it will be much the same as the Gold class version (minus the DA function) because it really rings my bells!

This is a Bas Azz blade. Feels great in the hand and is rock solid.
Looking forward to carrying the 132 when it comes out.
Not the one to clip on your Dolphin shorts and jog around the block with, but a super great blade for almost anything else.

Both of those knives have been growing on me since I first saw them.
I was going to put one on pre-order, but I'm just going to order one the day the go on sale. That goes for both versions, I haven't been this excited about a knife release in several years.

Since I think you may have said the 132 will be released around Aug 1. That gives me time to order a Fehrman Extreme Judgment first. Kinda spreading out the cash over a few months.
