Even if the Narrows is full Ti, it’s more money than a full Ti Large Sebenza…
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is ready to order! See this thread for details:
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/bladeforums-2024-traditional-knife.2003187/
Price is $300 ea (shipped within CONUS). If you live outside the US, I will contact you after your order for extra shipping charges.
Order here: https://www.bladeforums.com/help/2024-traditional/ - Order as many as you like, we have plenty.
My actual points on Spyderco's prevalent overseas manufacturing was:"Asia"
There is a big difference between Japan, Taiwan and China. I gladly support the first two. The Taiwan and USA knives, top tier, and though I do not use it, the Chinese knives can take 380lbs torque, crazy for a China linerlock.
They announced them again this year in the videos like last year's announcement never happened as far as I can tell.Just out of curiosity... what ever happened to the Immunity models. Those have been on pre-order for a long time now with no release date. Why are they not in the 2023 catalog?
Do we know if these ridiculous prices are what dealers are actually going to charge, or are these MSRP numbers from Benchmade themselves? Because, there's zero way that they have thought things through if they truly believe a bunch of people will be onboard with the Narrows being over $500. I mean, let's be real. A Cold Steel Code4 offers this exact package for like one sixth(!!) the cost, except it has a stronger lock, and Cold Steel's S35vn is plenty tough and won't be giving up much to BM's M390 soooooo......???? What am I missing here?
I'm not a BM fan, nor would I spend the money, but that is the one that caught my attention. It tugged hard at my inner mall ninja heart strings. The SOCP Benchmade 185 Fixed Blade was an interested shape, but too large to be practical/bigger than I would carry, when I first saw it I was hoping it was between a 5 and 5.5" blade. Maybe they will come out with a mini in the future.
In which case, it’s an even worse proposition because $500 is when you start getting into customs and midtechs from very well known makers. That new Narrows is a beautiful knife. $500.00 knives aren't exactly unheard of here. For me the issue isn't if it's worth the $500.00 price, it's how does the knife compare to other $500.00 knives!
It's a solid strategy. I love BM but I tend to play the long game and catch them on sale which happens frequently enough. I seem to be doing that more in general these days instead of instant gratification, especially with pricier knives. But I still throw money at knifemakers too. It's a disease!I’ll just wait until an overly-eager member buys a few of these things and they get dropped on the exchange NIB for -30%. Not gonna lie.
The Narrows is titanium vs aluminium for the Code 4, but that and the steel certainly ain't worth the over $400 difference to me.Do we know if these ridiculous prices are what dealers are actually going to charge, or are these MSRP numbers from Benchmade themselves? It has to be the capital investment in the new lock feature. No other excuse. The Narrows is titanium vs aluminium for the Code 4, but that and the steel certainly ain't worth the over $400 difference to me.
R&D, patenting (haven't been able to find anything, though), new fixtures...It has to be the capital investment in the new lock feature. No other excuse.
