New BK 10 owners, what do you think? Share!

Just got mine in, man what a steal! The part of the blade that isn't stripped almost looks more like a patina than an epoxy coating......saweet!

yeh, i carved up a small log yesterday. did like a multi test. a little splitting, chopping, and feather sticking and it worked very well. The chopping test wasnt as good as the 2 since the lighter weight but it still chews wood real well

You thinking maybe a muscled up bushcrafter?

def. this will be my bushcrafter of choice. Thin enough to do small stuff, big enough for larger tasks. Im going to see how well it does prepping and starting a fire by itself and ill let you know

Big brown step van stopped by a bit ago. Thought y'all might like to see what it left for me.

Notice the cut piece of the invoice? A damned sharp knife cut that box open! (Kershaw Breakout for anyone keepin' score )

I really thought clich was jokin' with the "bells and whistles" thing, but I figured it out as soon as I pulled the knife out of the box. At first I thought I might have his missing bolt inside my scales, but nope, it was the bells, and the whistle was sho' 'nuff in the sheath pocket. Funny stuff Toooj, or whoever thought of that.

I'm noticing that the coating is more like bluing than anything I've seen from Becker/Ka-Bar before. It's like it's soaked into the steel, as opposed to sitting on top of it.

Just a gratuitous Kershaw thrown in for size comparison:

All I've done with it so far is handle it a very little bit and swap the scales. Will at least take it outside for some glamor shots in the next few days, but haven't decided yet if I'm going to use it or not. I still haven't really used my latest BK2 yet. I'm also thinking I may put those micarta scales on the 2 for testing purposes, being as this is the first set I've had.

One thing I did notice is that the knife came out of the box VERY sharp. Kinda surprised me actually, as I've read a lot of recent reviews about new Ka-Bars coming pretty dull. Not this one though.

Anyhow, there ya go. I'm not freakin' out anymore, just bathin' in the afterglow. :D

I got mine in today as well. I wasn't sure how I would like it compared to the BK2 but I think I like it more. It's a shame I decided to leave this one in the box for posterity's sake.

I think I prefer the thinner blade profile over the BK2, but obviously they will perform different tasks better than one another.

I'm freakin' out, man! I'm not even on the same continent as my fookin' BK10 right now GAH.

Yeah, I think I actually like this over the BK2 myself. I would still rather have the BK2 in a survival situation though. Thicker, and less likely to bust the tip off.

got mine :)

with extras :D :D :D ring ring Becker phone, ring ring

My custom BK2 sheath is a hybrid, kydex/leather, and surprisingly, the 10 fits in there just like it was made for it. There would be play if not for the ramp, which serves to stabilize all the play out of it. The 2 actually rattles a little bit, the 10 doesn't at all.

On the group-buy idea, I like it. I totally understand if everyone wants to give Nick (MWTIC) first shot at the deal if we decide to do it, but I am going to suggest the guy that made my sheath too. His name is Michael Volclae and he lives in Joplin, MO, and lost nearly everything in the monster 'nado there a couple of months ago. My sheath was the last one he shipped before the storms hit. Not sure he's had a chance to reset his shop yet, but if he has, I have no doubt that he's in need of as much work as we could throw his way to help in his family's recovery.

Just a thought. I'll likely order one wherever they come from if we decide to do it. It's a great idea. It would be kind of like the secret nose-pick if we ever ran into each other out in the meat world. :D

Wow Blues, that is a hell of a rig. Love it. If you have the contact info for the sheath, would you PM me?

how's the stock sheath? fairly tight retainment? or is it just a plastic insert for protection of the nylon/corduroy more than anything. with the snap undone will the blade stay put when turned upside down or does gravity take that baby right to the ground?

Loose, in a plastic insert. No, it will fall out. No complaints here though.

I got mine in today as well.

Ramp is gonna be gone this weekend, and there are a few things I wanted to note,

-Camillus handles suck. Mine had shite fit, and didn't match the handle. Plus, I remember mine cracking on my old BK2.
-Kabar sheaths aren't the best, but they are better than Camillus's. My BK10 went straight into an ESEE sheath. Done.
-New Kabar micarta is a lighter color than the older stuff

All in all, a damn fine knife. Glad I got one. Love the tumbled look on the flats.

I put the new micarta on it, but I'm thinking about putting some Kabar Grivory on it, and slapping the micarta on my BK5. That's sexy right there.

Good job fellas, now, I gotta get started on the next forum knife. Gotta top this one, and that ain't gonna be easy.:D

He's a registered Maker trade, so I can put links up for him. His website is Volclae Design. His email is here. His User Name on BFC is emcarrol. If you get a hold of him and find out that he's up and running, please let me know. I've been meaning to call him to see how he's doin', but just haven't gotten around to it.

Yeah, what The Warrior said. You can fix the retention by pulling out the liner and dunking it in boiling water and forming it for a better fit to the knife. But really, it's a crap sheath. You'd probably be happier with some kind of custom job.

For a hanger like this id prefer it to slide in an out. I actually really really like the sheath. It works well.

I'm going to grind the ramp off, convex the spine, drill a 3/4 inch thumb hole in the middle of the blade and paint it black. Going to take the scales off and wrap the tang with epoxy coated paracord. I think it will be sweet. The freaking out might be getting to me a little....
