New BK16 grind issue?

I'm going to send this one back, and order a new one (so I get it before the weekend). The lack of belly will drive me nuts.

I would do the same also, splitter, i cant afford good knives and when i finally save up money to buy one, i want it to be perfect or i just wont be happy.
If mine doesnt come perfect ill be very mad and send it back.

Yea man, it is not ground the way it should be. It really sucks that you received one like that.
I know from experience that It is with in Ka-Bars quality control standards, and they will ship the knife back to you just like that.
I know because I had three BK-16's that were ground wrong, one just like that and one even worse and I got all three back from Ka-bar.

The quality control at Ka-bar has suffered In my opinion. But they are trying to keep the cost of their knives down. I really wish they would step it up but I don't think it's gonna happen.

It's really the person who is putting the final edge on the blades. I think Ka-bar needs to have a meeting and show this guy what a real bk-16 edge should look like.
I really don't get it cause I have had 7 or 8 other BK-16's look just perfect right out of the Box. Really Baffles my mind.

I don't really want to get into it and all that, but I believe They still make a great knife for the money. I was really upset with the way they handled my 16's but have since gotten over it. I still love Ethan's knives and If Ka-bar is gonna be producing them, then I will still buy them. Still a great American made company and still priced pretty low for such great blades.

That being said, I will probably not except knives like that ever again. I would just return it to where you got it, and order another one, possibly from a different vender?
Or ask nicely if they can check the knives for you and send you the best looking one?

Or do what I did with my Lemons.............. Mod the hell out it and make something even better.

Here were my disappointments:

Good luck man with what ever you decide. The knife is still fully functional the way you received it, but if your like me, the little details are super important and that knife probably would not make me too happy.

OMG you're killing me. That bottom one is just terrible. Is this what i can expect purchasing a Becker knife??!?
:(

For the price they are hard to beat, if the issue is major the customer service is pretty great. I regularly handle knives well past several hundred bucks a piece and even some of them are not perfect.

That bottom one (in the top pic of course), is exactly like what I received.

I have owned and used knives everywhere from $1 to $1000, and not once have I come across something so bad as a misshaped blade. Not like this.

If Mora of Sweden can produce knives in the $10-50 range with absolutely perfect QC, Ka-Bar should be able to do the same for well over double the money. Let me rephrase that, Ka-Bar should be able to do exactly as they did before...

Before I received that 16, I could have told you with 100% certainty that this is not what you should expect when it comes to BK&T. But now, I'm not so sure. I understand a few lemons slipping through QC, but it seems to me that this is a fairly widespread issue.

Indeed. How many blades/day does that guy or gal finish grind and sharpen? How much time does he or she have to spend on each one? Sorry guys, but you got give some kind of leeway on a factory knife that costs less than a serious meal. I have nothing against Ka-Bar at all, but these are not multi-hundred dollar handmade customs, or a $5- or 6-figure vehicle...

Perhaps you are able to afford a "serious meal" a little easier than some others...

the bottom knife in the bottom pic doesnt even look like the same knife.
nor does the knife in the op pic. wtf

Call me crazy... but I actually like the ones everybody is complaining about. Yes, it has a slighter bit of less belly but the way it flows into the point is kinda sexy.

i dont buy knives for fun. I buy knives for use and put alot of care and thought into purchasing the correct one for my needs.
Im not going to get killed in combat because my knife wasnt the same one i ordered.
I'll be looking for a different knife im afraid.
keyboard warrior.

If you convex your Beckers, you probably won't notice it. My BK9 had a slightly uneven swage, I was concerned, because it looked bent, but I didn't do anything about it. After six lean-to shelters, countless fires, and about 100 trees fallen, and left outside in a over night twice, the swage isn't really important...:D

I hope you're replacement makes you happy!

Check yourself sonny , I've been collecting and using everything right up to busse combat knives and customs for ten years. The only reason my beckers are all still unused is because I've bought them over the space of this year and haven't had much time off work to go out and use them. I think you tend to forget that you're actually just a kid sometimes , which doesn't entitle you to poke fun at me . When you're older and the reality of working a job sinks in , you'll realise you gotta find the balance between affording knives , and finding the time to use them. And as for you quoting prices , if mum and dad aren't paying for them , I'm guessing you certainly aren't ?

Let's discuss the topic, not each other. :grumpy: You folks wanna get nasty with each other, take it to whine and cheese.

Rarely... I make custom/handmade knives for a living. Reports of the glamour, fame and piles of cash that go along with that career choice are vastly exaggerated :D

Believe me, I understand that $100 is a lot of money to most people in the real world. Then again, we're talking about knives that will last longer than any of us, unless we do something really stupid with/to them... not a great meal that will be flushed down the crapper the next day ;)

Not sure how to respond to this, other than to say that mass production knives are going to have some tolerances.
Aesthetics aside, there's nothing wrong with a single knife in this thread as far as function. And different people have different aesthetic tastes.

See?

I don't really want to say this,

But then of course you say it... :p

but the ground is shrinking under KA-BAR's feet. Out of the box, the edges aren't usually perfect, grinds are off a lot, coating makes them drag a lot, and the scales are usually off, and the sheaths kinda suck. Also, the screws come loose some times if you don't tighten them, and the handles are kinda slick.....

I disagree and think Ka-Bar does a fine job with Ethan's designs. I'm sure he does too, or he wouldn't still be doing business with them. You weren't around for Camillus, obviously.

And yet here you are, a grown man throwing a temper tantrum on an internet board over something a teenager said. Aren't we supposed to set an example? You obviously have no problem talking smack(keyboard warrior comment) so you bette r expect some in return.. This is a fun place, lets keep it that way.

LOL Thats for sure. I seem to get the short end of the straw when it comes to production knives. Unfortunately i can't afford a custom.
So i spend months researching knives until i find the one i need, like im doing with the beckers.

That made me mad but ive chosen to ignore it. He has no idea what my background is, what my job is, or the pure hell i've been through.
And he obviously doesnt know what my age is, which is 45 years old.

This thread is about the becker Bk-16. Im sticking with that topic which is much more pleasant.
