Becker Magnacut Campanion:

Anyone jumping on this?

My two thoughts:

1. $350 and with regular grivory scales still?

2. Gimme a BK9 in magnacut!

Honestly, not for me. If I'm doing magnacut, I'd probably opt for thinner blade stock.
0.25" is a lot of magnacut for an application where I don't really feel the Magnacut would shine.

Sure looks nice though, what with all the silver-on-black and all.

I mean... if what ya want is a stainless BK-2, it's not a bad way to go. Though I'd have picked the AEB-L family for it's toughness, which would beat out 1095-CV handily.

If it goes to regular retailers at the usual 50% of MSRP it will be a GREAT deal. At $350 it's kinda steep. I just sold a full-size custom Magnacut belt knife w/ all the bells and whistles for that price.

Edit: re: BK-9 in Magnacut. With all that chopping force, I'd also go AEB-L*. Toughness over wear resistance and way less hassle to sharpen over THAT much edge at their ideal hardnesses for that application.

Me, I’ll consider buying it in a few weeks.

Several times over the last few years, I’ve been caught in a dynamic with KA-BAR that’s a little troubling.

Two examples, their State and Union Mark 2, their OSF, they’re big ticket item that I’ve bought as soon as they came out to support the brand. Inevitably, I see them on sale for $100 less (if not discounted significantly more). I’m sure it’ll happen with the F01 folder and the BK76 soon. It’s happened quite a few times and it doesn’t exactly sit right as a dedicated supporter of the brand.

Also, I think this will be excluded from their half off sale.

apparently Tomars is taking pre-orders at an actually reasonable price.
hopefully it's real and their site hasn't been hacked.
Thanks for sharing this. I just ordered it. Came out to $221 and change all in. That’s a big difference!

I'm surprised by the responses being mostly universally commenting on the thickness, given the material.
Usually I'd expect to see more variation in the responses.
