New blade?

Sooo...I was doing some auto work for a stranded motorist just about an hour ago and I managed to arc the blade on my stainless Police. I'm sure that's not covered under warranty, but can I get a new blade put on?

Shame that Spyderco won't sell us new blades. Maybe it's too hard to stock them given the huge number of knife/steel combos they make? Or maybe just not worth it given the cost relative to a new knife?

COI, its harder to ensure that they will have a blade to fit older handles, so they just don't. That said it makes for a good story, how bad is the damage?

Aren't the stainless models pinned anyways? When it's a W&R fix they will usually give credit towards a new knife. They aren't the only company that does that. How bad is the blade damage Dougo83?

Even if they had a huge warehouse with a hundred of every blade they ever made, just matching one to your handle would be next to impossible. Too many rolling changes along the way. Even if you still had the box and it had a date code narrowing it down to month and year it could still be problematic.

Yuuuup :( :(
Been there. Done that.
Right on the edge of my little Buck. I ground it out and while I was at it I mirror polished the blade (long long time ago). Can't even tell now. No prob.

Or you could, alternatively, call it your wire stripper notch ;) :).

Even if it's pinned, a new blade could be put in. Buck can do this with their knives, no reason Spyderco can't, other than they don't want to provide the service of replacing blades for their customers. I guess they'd rather sell you a new knife (~$120) than a new blade ($~30)

CIA? Cool Sounding Marketing Acronym? But if it is the secret sauce that makes spyders awsome, I'll take whatever Sal calls it.
Continuous Quality Improvement. It's not a term Sal coined by any means.

How many versions of each blade do you propose they keep? What about steel? What about changes over the years?

That's up to Spyderco to determine as to how to best serve their customers. Even if they don't keep all steels in stock, at least offering the option of a replacement blade of a comparable steel would still be a step forward from where they are.

My point is they make small changes to each knife over time. Once they make a change, do they keep it stocked, or just current model? Again, if i break my m390, and send it in what if they don't have one since they only made a few hundred or whatever. Or if its a millie and M4? Then which? I'm not against the idea, but with the variety, CQI and such it would be hard to keep inventory. Also keep in mind it's only a $10M company. That's potentially a lot of money tied up, just in case...

Hi Sharkattacksw,

It's not a practical direction for us for all of the reasons mentioned.

Sal Glesser Sal Glesser , thanks. I know you can't keep all blades in stock. But even on common blades, such as S30V PM2, S110V PM2, VG10 Delica, VG-10 Endura, and S30V Manix 2 blades, Spyderco still doesn't offer to sell the customer a new blade, right? I know you can't keep all blades in all blade steel offerings in stock, but for knives that are your bread and butter, like the ones I mentioned above as examples, wouldn't it be nice to offer the option of a new blade vs a the cost of a new knife to your customers? Again, I point to your competitor who do, indeed, offer this service. I've had several Spydercos over the decades that I've damaged the blades and would've loved to have had a new blade put in, but you didn't (& still don't) give me that option. I had to buy a brand new knife. In some instances, I've replaced them with other Spydercos. In others, I've gone with a knife from one of your competitors.

Tip is completely jacked. About halfway down, there is now a hole where the serrations should be.
