Cruising through Wally and made a slight detour into sporting goods earlier today and saw this. I have been going back and forth between getting a Buck Endeavor and a Gerber strongarm as a medium sized survival/camp knife. I must admit the Gerber was winning due to the sheath and serrations on the Endeavor. But man Im glad I held off! This Mesa is basically an upgraded Endeavor with Micarta scales, a plain edge and a Kydex like sheath. Its a 5" blade and is coated with something similar to bead blast. Just thought Id share since I havnt seen these before.

Is this model just aviable at Walmart? I went on the buck site and only saw the endeavor. I would prefer this the Mesa over the endeavor. I don't like the serrated feature in the endeavor

Same here. I think so, today was the first time I saw it.

I found one today. It's really nice. It fits my hand really well and the micarta handle feels great. The thumb guard/rise might be a hot spot, but this is a winner. Get one.:thumbup:

For comparison, this knife is the same length at the Buck 104 Compadre Camp Knife. It has a similar shape, but there are some slight differences. The steel is different as well, but that it okay.

In the photo above they look to have the same length blade. But in the catalog it states the 104 has a 4 1/2" blade. The Endeavor has a 5". DM

That is interesting David. I just measured them, they are the same. From the tip to where the edge stops at the choil, it's 4 3/4". From the tip to the guard, where the choil ends, it's 5"

Wow, cool. I just talked to Joe H at the show and said they needed to offer the Endeavor without serration.

Well here it is without serrations and upgraded handle. Can't wait to see one.

I like the belly forward of the 104. Also, it has less finger guard, less thumb ramp and a lanyard hole. All are features I like. The steel and coating on the 104 I'm not excited about but could live with it. DM

I really wish that buck would lay off of the recurve blades. The slight recurve in this blade, the 104 and several others really turns me off. I can't see any functional reason why it's there and it makes the blade harder to sharpen. I would own one of these and maybe both if it weren't for this. I've wanted an endeavor without serrations for years. Who knew the serrations were hiding that ugly curve in the blade. I too am looking hard at the strongarm and I sure would like it if buck produced something that I liked better, but not so far.

Walmart does in fact have these in store. Just picked one up. Has anyone started using them yet? Would like to hear anyone's experience with the Mesa

That's a good looking knife. I may have to get one. But I still think of the ones you mentioned that the Gerber Strongarm is the better value of the three due to it's much more customizable sheath. It also comes in plain edge and they sell them at close to the same price range at Walmart.
