Lol...thanks! This was the rosewood reaper. Scales are homemade burlap micarta. With the larger scales and the removal of the pointy fingerguard it's a whole different knife.

Sorry if I hijacked the Mesa thread :). I've been checking my Walmart for a mesa since this thread started. It looks like it will be a nice knife with a couple of tweaks.

Well I love the Reaper as well so I dont see it as a hijack. I removed the coating from mine and attempted to RIT dye the viper scales black but dang those things are stubborn! The handle (and overall knife) is a tad lighter than I like and some type of Carbon steel would be killer on it but overall its a nice do it all fixed blade.

Scored one today, this has all the makings of a great hunting/camp knife. Light to carry, just the right size for most common tasks. And kudos to Buck for a nice simple way to switch the sheath for proper left hand carry!!!

Spine works great with firesteels also. :)

Finally dry enough to beat on it. Processed a crap load of wood, including batoning, feathersticks etc. and it did great. Im very impressed by the 420HC as I fully expected to have to touch it up after all that but it still sliced phone book paper. The slight recurve with the hollow grind really bit into the wood and made wood shavings like butter. It batoned very well and the Micarta handles are very comfortable and remained so throughout, in fact I think I have found my new favorite handle material.

Nice knives! Wait until you get four super centers in the same town. Not all carry the same inventory and the price depends what neighborhood their in.

... the search continues. None at the two Walmarts in my area. I've got to find one of these.

Found one. Brought it home this morning. Glad to have found an affordable knife with a micarta handle. I think it's the best and most durable material available for a grip on a 'woods knife'. Into the Badlands pack it goes! Thanks to the OP for bringing this to my attention.

Now, a leather sheath would be nice, if any of our resident leather artisans are reading this ...

On it. What type or style sheath. Bushcraft? Survival? Dangler? I don't mind putting some together.

I don't have a Mesa but I do have an Endeavor. Which I think are the same size.

I did find one and picked it up at Wally in WA tired five places. Funny thing they only had one, knew nothing about it and did not know when they would get another. Buck Mesa looks to be a good camp knife.
Thanks
Bob

Im in WA too and would like to grab one. Which stores did you check?

I want one of these so bad! I checked out one in the Wally world and it looks just as good in person (unfortunately the 715 there did not look as good as the pics online). I just have no use for one, I can't see carrying it in the "city" now. I guess I could use it in the kitchen....right guys?
