I just bought a Buck Strider 889 from a local knife shop today. My first reaction was the liner lock was thin, but it locked up well, so I will reserve judgment for later. I loved the blades thickness and shape, as well as the handle. I like it so far, but I haven't gotten a chance to try it out around the house.

Do any of you have experience with it? What do you like or dislike about it?

What are your thoughts on the 420HC blade? It took a good edge, but like I said, I haven't gotten to use it yet.

Here it is next to my TDI.

Congrats on your purchase stdlrf11. I think you'll like the 420HC steel just fine.

Goose, the 889 is impressive next to the 110 in that thread, huh?

Yeah Messy. That pic from TLC sold me on it. I needed something to compensate for my inadequacy. The postman better have that pup here today!!!!!

Well, the knife bit me twice already and I haven't owned her 24 hours!!
Once while sharpening her on my Smith version of a Lansky and once while I was trying to get used to the liner lock.
I guess she's itchin' to cut some stuff!!

The only thing she's gotten to do is sharpen a pencil (damn taxes!!).

I'll get out to the lake house in a few weeks, if the weather warms up, and do some work with it. I'll report back with any updates.

It has been cold and miserable here, by Texas standards. The boy and the dog have been at each other's throats from being inside so much, so I took the family on a nature walk today. I decided to test the Buck out while I was at it.

I hacked through a small green branch about the size of my thumb. No signs of wear at all.

I whittled a few pieces of wood and chopped some pencil sized twigs in half. Still no wear.

I have to say the 420HC blade is tougher than I thought it would be. I like this knife!!

Yep... has to be said that is a great knife. I got my Dad the 882 (very similar) except the 882 is ATS34. That is one bad boy of a knife :)

Well, I'm sold, but havin' a hellov a time getting one. Have tried six outlets here in Canada. No luck. Emailed Tadgear in SF today, hoping they can accommodate me. Haven't been as interested in a knife since I got my Randall 25 years ago.

In the meantime, looking forward to more reviews from owners.

Cheers.

My 889BSMF is now my favorite folder. Hands down.

Poor Rosie Dorado has been left on the belt as a back-up while the 889 gets to have all the fun in cutting things up.

The position of the liner lock gives me the heebeegeebees...but it has held up so far. I am concerned about the torx head in the blade pivot coming loose over time so I may drop some LocTite in it.

My 110 Buckcote will still out cut it on anyday and the BuffCote will still be used in the kitchen. The 889 is too thick for luncheon meat slicing.

As for the checkered pattern on the handle scraping up the hand when you have the knife clipped in your front pocket...I know carry it in my hip pocket and that took care of that.

Impressive knife for under 50 clams.
