New Cold Steel Knives at SHOT Show

The Laredo with G10 looks really nice, I hope they offer a version like that at some point.

The Drifter does look a little better in hand and moving around than in the still pics and that one grainy video a couple of weeks ago.

Tanto AD 10, for sure.

Drifter, I will end up with this.

I liked the Mayhem! Looks like it would go good with my Espadas. I also liked the huge Tanto they showed.

Some of the steel choices are a turn off.

I like the Stickman dude just fine, but it boggles my mind why they didn't get a person that was, you know, a knife person.

At least it would seem that LT has taken him under his big ol' wing. Now he will learn the way of the blade. :D

Stickman is left handed....but no left handed clips being sent anymore?

4116? Naw.

Drafter has potential, but that finger guard is going to hit the cutting board before the blade does. The lock looks neat.

Warcrafts look good.

I can appreciate that GSM is trying.

Yeah, that makes it even more asinine. But it looks like the new stuff has ambidextrous clips, so they're probably trying to get away from lefty clips entirely. But unless they're going to redesign all the existing stuff, or get rid of them, there's still going to be a demand for lefty clips.

Wow.

I must be officially getting old because ā€œThings now just arenā€™t as good as they were in the old daysā€!!!

I know lots of ppl here have never been CS fans, and I didnā€™t care for some of the marketing stuff, but generally I didnā€™t feel that the knives themselves were gimmicks. It seemed that over the last several years particularly the company focused on designing/improving serious working blades.

This video makes me think weā€™re entering a new, less good, era. Even the fit/finish looked bad - did you see the grind on that Bowie?? But maybe that was just bad lightingā€¦ haha.

Thatā€™s just me though (the curmudgeon) - is there some new CS offering that youā€™re looking forward to?

Mayhem anyone?

I agree.

Good eye too. Yeah those grinds look messed up in several spots. Saw some bad spots on the folder blades too.

That mayhem is ridiculous. It's the size of a smartphone closed. And who wants to carry two of those around?

I can't decide what do these look like more... AliExpress knives or Gas Station knives?

Handles, grinds, symmetry, just design itself...

It's not functional or pretty or anything... it's just... shit.
What a shame...

For a long time I used to say that Cold Steel was Spyderco's evil twin, because once you got past the braggadocio and ridiculous mall ninjary they had a lot of very solid, practical knives that, beneath the smoke and mirrors, were really focused around good ergonomics and solid cutting geometry.

Unfortunately, it seems clear those days are past with GSM.

I know you're a long time Cold Steel fan, so it's gotta be tough seeing the way this cookie has been crumbling.

While I only discovered Cold Steel seven or eight years ago, their products have quickly won over my favor. They seem to have cornered the market for well built, affordable knives along with all the other fun stuff. It's unique and awesome.

I am really cheering for GSM to keep the ship on course.

I keep having a reoccurring wish that they would approach all of us and ask for our inputs. Let us as a community help you with design choices. We know what other manufactures do well, and we can help navigate what's popular.

In for Tanto AD10!!!! In for Mayhem!!!!! Not sure about 4116 steel on the other models??? Did I hear that correctly?

I am not a fan of the new design aesthetic featuring unnecessary grooves and cutouts, and harpoon blades, but to each their own.

Also, these folders are 3"-3.5" which everyone makes. Where are the 4" blades? It used be that Cold Steel was the place to go for large folders.

I'm not going to go to hard on the Mayhem. I wonder if it's an old design prototype that was left over, and they rushed into production. It needs a disk or a spydie hole, and some tweaking. Wish they'd reintroduce some of the old discontinued models.

I own 3V version of Warcraft... and I'm not impressed by any of their "new" versions...

Instead of making the product better - they made it worse...

My thoughts too.

Sadly we aren't their majority. While it's true we bring some profit - their target audence are what you can call mall ninjas or eventually weekend warriors.

People who will google search Cold Steel as a good knife or have maybe heard something good about CS and then go ahead and buy a "good knife" while for example paying 4034 Warcraft as much as I paid 3V version 2 years ago...

And they'll be happy with it as they don't know any better or might never even use it.

Same with folders... those people won't look for uneven grinds, centered blade or even care about hotspot on the middle of the handle... most of them won't even use them.
