New Cold Steel Products For 2016.

3.1oz?! I didn't even notice that! That puts it into Manix 2 LW territory with a Tri-Ad lock and CTS-XHP steel! That's very impressive.

I'm hesitant to believe it, to be honest, as they're also claiming the handles are G10. But if CS really has managed to pull off a knife that big, that light and made with those materials my hat is off to them. I'll wait until dealers have the knife in hand before I fully believe it, though.

it's possible. even though the blade is 4 inches, the knife is narrow overall. Also im guessing the handle scale is slim like the new lawman/holdout and with the FFG blade it should be extremely light. Maybe not 3.1 oz, but definitely less than 4oz.

now it's just the matter of color............................

It's definitely possible, Al Mar has managed it, but definitely kind of crazy at that price. I'm just hesitant to trust preliminary measurements that may or may not be from the manufacturer. Although, I'll repeat it again, if Cold Steel managed a 3oz 4" G10 Triad lock knife for $80? Hats off to them, that's damned impressive no matter how silly I think the name is.

And orange, of course. :D

Ha! That's authentically the dilemma I was pronged on the horns of! But my Pacific Salt is yellow and since they would probably live side by side...well, I'm a good Ohio boy and I don't have any truck with Michigan colors in my knife drawer. ;)

How about the "grey"(white)? What if you were to take it hunting? Does G-10 stain?:tyrannosaurus:
It picks up color pretty easily, like blue from jeans and maroonish from blood, but it cleans off easily with a magic eraser in my experience.

If it is as light as currently stated, I'm interested. Might go orange for me and blue for my girlfriend, if she likes the design.

I hope the VG-1 SRK, does not get taken out by the 3V. Reason being, is EVERY SINGLE Japanese made Cold Steel knife I have handled in my life, are expressions of perfection. To me, achieving perfection in symetry, materials (there is even a marked difference in the quality of Kraton between the Japanese made Cold Steels, and the China/Taiwan/Camillus made ones). To me, the master's skill that gets expressed innthe blade, means more than the type of steel used. We aren't talking about slag filled pot metal. These are all modern Steel's.

And while Sharon Steel/Carbon V/1095 Cro-Van is great stuff-The AUS8A and SM3 Japanese Made SRKS, blows the ones made by Camillus out of the water, in terms of fit and finish etc. I have not handled a VG1 SRK yet, but being as it is made in Japan as well, I have no doubt that it will be every bit as amazing as the other 2.

I really hope that we get to keep, and maybe even see a few more Japanese (hint hint Hattori) made Cold Steel Knives in the future.

Broken Skull looks like a nice little pocket utility piece. I was hoping they'd cycle in something that continues on the Culloden - Braveheart family line.

I really wish they would make me a real smatchet, not just a machete. No one else is doing it. I would do dirty things for a double edge, properly weighted, 3v smatchet with a nice handle and good sheath. This is exactly the kind of thing i look to cold steel for. Please make it happen.

Kind of why I have a Shanghai Warrior coming in, to mod ?. I hear ya though.

This is good information, thanks for the post, appreciated.

White would be my secondary choice, after blue. Always considered orange hideous, and this knife didn't change that.

Steve likes it.

It matches his hat.

And those who like the color to begin with, for them, it should steal attention from the Bear Grylls knife.

3.1 oz does seem a bit of a stretch. The Spyderco Endura 4 FFG weighs in at 3.4 oz according to manufacturer info. It's about .5" shorter than the Broken Skull overall. The question is how the G10 compares to the FRN and aggressively milled nested SS liners on the Endura in weight. While I believe that under 4 oz is reasonable for this knife, 3.1 seems almost too good to be true. I'll happily eat a little crow on this if I'm wrong though.

Although I'm a little torn between orange and blue, I'm pretty sure blue will win for me.

Check this maker's video, of him laminating Steel. Very impressive. While Hattori is arguably the best on the planet at laminating steel (he has patented his method) this is just cool to watch. The skill and labor required, gives me a respect for every laminated blade out there. Takes a lot more labor, and talent than the stamping/laser/water jet cutting and grinding that dominates the modern Cutlery industry.

Hell, I'm not a flipper fan, or an axis/arc lock fan...but there was a VG10 San Mai SOG Vulcan for sale in the Exchange (for a song) naturally I had to take it.

The only SOGs I've ever (or will never own) are their Japanese made blades (which are getting to be fewer and fewer)

And my question is why is no one talking about the obvious winner of these new releases.... the La Fontaine throwing knife! .....even pre drilled for adding your own handle scales!

All the throwers released this year are 5mm thick, not the usual old 3.5mm.

Seriously, preorder in for 6 ATM...

They just scream " mod me and enjoy like you were 9 again with your daddy's good knives sneaked out in the woods and thrown at crap "

Other than that, I want a Blackthorn staff, Recon Hawk II, and a Gothic Mace.

serious question though... how much would it cost em to actually release the canes with a few extra inches on em so they can be cut to fit for most average sized Americans?

I own 1 of every cane they have and they ALL need another 2 to 3 inches on em for my size and build =o( That axe cane would be awesome....at 42 inches

Broken Skull looks like a winner although that weight seems optimistic given that the Tri-Ad lock is by its nature quite heavy.

The Broken Skull seems like an awesome model. Slim yet long with a full flat grind. But I wish they didnt write on the blade with such big letters. And a satin finish would be nice.
