wow. I just read the other thread.
Time to reconsider membership ... even from Europe ...

I am sure a lot of folks would be more then happy to upgrade their membership to Gold, IF BF was kind enough to take Paypal. Oh well...

:D Spark Does take paypal now, look at the top of page "upgrade your forums experience" and click link. you'll see a Paypal Option.

Sounds good so me I all be upgrading tonight when I get home. To bad somebody had to do that, its ridiculous, but I am more then happy to help support this place.

i know what i'm doing on payday! been waiting on my basic membership to expire to upgrade to gold, guess i'll upgrade a little early.

Looks like I will be upgrading to Gold!

I should have done it a while ago anyway. This is as good of excuse as anything.

Rat Pack #277

While I understand the need for the rules change, due to douche bags trying to cheat, this probably means that people like me who play by the rules wont ever win the contest. While I like being on the forums I dont know that I want to pay to have a chance to win a "free" prize. Maybe someday, but not right now. I totally support your rules change but by doing this you eliminate the chance for the casual fan, or the poor fan, from winning. I guess in the end, a-holes like rc3mil or whomever he was, ruin it for the average person in their need for free stuff.

Thanks

I believe Spark will pro-rate your account also, should you decide to upgrade to a higher membership early. :)

Yes Ruin the Fun for the average member but it was this or stop all contest all together on BF and we opted this route

I'm still debating ...
one of the bigger advantages of paid membership doesn't really apply to me (I would always try and sell my stuff in Europe, and chances are pretty good here, so why bother with shipping rates) and counter-intuitively the price for me is higher ...
(no not criticizing pricing here, just a personal view, I know why pricing is what it is, and I wouldn't do it any different)

I really have to determine: will I need to sell something in the course of the next 12 month or not. If that is likely, I have to get the paid membership of one of the European forums. If not, I can get this one. Can't get both, unfortunately.

upgrading does not always have to do with selling stuff you get the ability to PM and other things as well.(that slip my mind being I have always been gold) and PM is the only thing I remember about not having as a basic member .

It may seem like splitting hairs, but you are not paying "to win a 'free' prize". You are paying to support the forum. Maybe that is just picking nits, but it seems like an important distinction to me.

In the end, this new rule will make the contests more "fair" and support BladeForums monetarily. It is good for the RAT Pack and BladeForums.

In before the lock….

I’m really not that much of a knife guy. I came here looking for specific info on specific knives (RAT/ESEE knives). If it weren’t for this section of the forum I wouldn’t be here.

My motivation to become a paying member and eventually upgrading to gold was I figured if Dizwolf can have a contest to give a $30 fire kit to a stranger and ESEE can repeatedly give stuff away (including the RAT Pack Kit that I won in the shelter contest) that my $24 contribution is worth it.

There has been a flood of giveaway participants who have never so much as contributed a word to ESEE forum. Take a look through the list some time. They might pop in with a “yeah I agree” in a couple of threads, but that’s it. It sucks for those members who do contribute.
