New Contest Rules !

Sad to hear that some idiot had to go and take things too seriously and ruin the fun. I've been looking for an excuse to upgrade so looks like I'm in for it now!

upgrading does not always have to do with selling stuff you get the ability to PM and other things as well.(that slip my mind being I have always been gold) and PM is the only thing I remember about not having as a basic member .

true, keep forgetting how useful PM can be ...

I decided to upgrade a while ago from basic to platinum, not because I needed the extras that come with it, but to support the forum. I think that this is a good move.

Thanks for the heads up. After reading that post I would think it would be easier to just buy a knife instead of creating several memberships to increase your odds of winning a ESEE raffle/contest. I wonder if that schitzo member w/ multiple personalities had conversations with himself online, what a boob! I will upgrade my membership.

Like Tony said, there are many advantages to upgrading that make the very small amount worth it. I've sold some of my own stash for more than enough to pay for the membership already. Several times. I like the ability to search, PM and now... enter contests!

Worth the money by far!

matthewdanger, I'm not here to start a war of words, I agree with the rules changes and think that they need to be instituted for the good of both the contest and the forum. But in rebuttal to your splitting hairs argument, the reason I found this forum to begin with was because of the link on the ESEE site to enter to win a free knife. Now its "pay to use this forum and win a free knife," I'm not complaining I'm simply stating a fact, that it's not the same thing. We will have to agree to disagree. I probably will someday pay to upgrade but I cant afford it right now and it is upsetting that I cant be entered into a contest because of some other greedy a-holes. I think ESEE is a great company with some great products, and I will continue to support them and this forum when I can but right now I cannot and that is disappointing to me, that's all.

Right on bro. We definitely agree about the greedy a-holes. They way this rule change came about is just down right lousy.

Imo, an upgrade to a basic member would be better. It is $10 vs $25. For someone like myself I will never sell or trade on the exchange so that type of account is not worth it to me where I was considering a basic upgrade anyway to support the forum. I get making the contest only for paying members, but think a basic should be good enough for the purpose of entering a contest online.

guys, it's only $2 a month! there are so many knowledgeable people all over here, from maintenance, w&ss, esee, etc. that i'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else. skip going to starbucks or watch a movie at home once a month or something.

greyhound352, I also have a RC-4 with serrations that I would like taken off. How much did they charge for regrinding and convexing your 4. Also, did you send it off or did you take to someone nearby your home. Also can you recommend a place to take my knife and have this done. I am from St. Louis, MO but I am currently mobilized in the DC area with the reserves, just as a frame of reference if you know any places near either of those cities, thanks and your knife looks great! Also if anybody else can answer this feel free to give your input as well.:)

i suggest holding off on modding your rc-4 then since it'll likely cost more than $25 from any reputable maker. if you honestly can't afford $25 but would've signed up for gold right now if you can then let me know and i'll gladly pay for your first year. consider it my first way of giving back to the esee community.

The rules are the rules. I don't understand how people can drop 100's if not 1000's of dollars on blades and complain about a lousy $25.00 a year to support a website. You win 1 CONTEST and your membership has more then paid for itself.

I fully support the rule change, let's see who wants to support BF and have a chance at winning some great gear.

The old "If you wanna play, ya gotta pay." saying definitely comes to mind.

I think this is a great idea. I get tired of seeing guys with 2 or 3 posts (all for free stuff) entering and winning drawings. This board costs money to run and people who really want to be here can afford a few bucks to join.

I am on multiple forums and I'm a paying member on all of them. If they are good enough for me to return to and hang out on they're worth the annual fees.

When I got to 1,000 posts I realized I was getting a tremendous amount of info and entertainment from this place. Breaking down the time spent to actual cost per hour puts it less than playing coin op video arcades. Wasn't hard to pay after that. I do like the search option, but I've never sold anything.

Same theory with the firkit contests. Those were highly entertaining to me. Worth every penny of kit. I also love the kits and like spreading the sickness. Speaking of I need to do another one of those soon.

As for people upset that they have to pay to get a free knife, I think you're missing the point of these forums. We're not all here for swag, we're here for the info and the fun times. You're payin to support the ability to run these forums. Not to win a knife.

 right on!

And that right there, is the bottom line.

Maybe this'll finally stop the spam and all the zombie threads that've been popping up. I think it's a good idea to limit contests/giveaways to paying members. I'll upgrade to gold probably when my current membership runs out.

one can hope about those zombie threads.

and you can upgrade whenever you like and have it pro-rated

That is awesome! Mankind in general could take a few lessons from that!

It is too bad that one ruined it for the many, but no sweat, I see it as win/win now. Forum gets support, ESEE get's promoted, and we get chances to win great knives/gear.
