New Cooper Cutlery knives?

I’ve recently acquired these three. Not quite GEC or Albers quality but not bad by any stretch. I’m a fan and hope for continued improvement and success for Cooper Cutlery!

From top to bottom the brands are Schatt & Morgan, Dollar Knife, and Beaver Falls.

I was a little confused about the dollar knife vs beaver falls. Are they the same knife just with different etches/stamps? Is one higher end, like GECs UN-X-LDs? I noticed that your beaver falls has a serial number and it appears your dollar knife does not?

They are two different brands that Cooper owns. They are of the same quality and price.

Thanks! I guess I found it a little odd they'd do this, but there were a lot of knives made under contract back in the day. So, it's not that far fetched to have two nearly identical knives under different brand names.

Nice knives though! I was looking at the ones from this drop and they seemed nice. You have a nice collection going!!

Thanks! It’s nice to have another option for slipjoints. I like the materials they are using.

I'm really enjoying these new Dollar Co. Knives from Cooper. They've improved a ton.

Beaver falls is not too far down the river from us here. Used to go through there quite a bit while working out that way. There's a nice plumbing supply company in the area. Plus, Off the top of my head there are the awesome cinnamon rolls at Orams and one of the coolest used tool stores ever is Hamilton tools (I could spend forever looking through the old used tools)

Anyways ive had a lot of fun reading about the original Beaver falls cutlery. Never knew it existed. It was a short lived firm most notable for its worker strike where the (mostly English) cutlers went on strike and were replaced by Chinese immigrants.

I've wanted a knife from Cooper and have no idea how they dug out this old companies name, but figured it would be cool to own one.

Thanks!

I'm glad to get one, but I think it'll be all if they keep going with the current pricing and availability trend.

I really wanted to pick up one of those sheepsfoot/cotton sampler patterns but they seem to be the collectors choice of the cooper releases. Either that or maybe they didn't make that many, I don't know.

Still excited to see what they do next!

Am I the only person baffled by the frenzy on the new CC knives? Seems a bit outrageous that they are priced at or higher than similar GEC releases, but don't reach GEC quality levels.

Their quality does seem to be improving from their earlier efforts (at least from what you can see in pictures, and as reported by those who have handled them), but personally I don’t think they look good enough to pay GEC prices. My guess is, with a lot more people getting into traditional knives than there were 5 or 10 years ago, Cooper fills a space for those who can’t get ahold of the GEC they want. I hope they keep improving and I wish ‘em well, but at this point, I’m not a buyer.

I picked up the Beaver Falls jack in ebony w/ the mammoth shield. At $175 that’s more expensive than a lot of the single blade GECs. I like the look of the knife, and am looking forward to checking it out. I love the idea of supporting a company dedicated to US manufacturing, and I’ll steer clear of a lot of the negativity that has plagued this thread, but if there are issues that got past QC it is going back for that price.

That really looks good. No gaps, nice and centered. Very nice ebony from what I can see and appears to be good shield fitment. Mine of the same configuration arrives tomorrow. Your post makes me very hopeful.
Hope we see consistency. Post pics when it arrives!
