New CPM Steel: Magnamax?

I know it's all speculation. But I am excited. If it's anything close to a stainless k390 I will be saving dollars for an endura as soon as it's made and enlisting a maker on here to make me a kitchen chefs knife out of it. That sounds like the perfect kitchen knife steel to me.

interesting. looking forward to see more details and such as it comes out.

pretty neat era we're in nowadays..... where we have specific steels being formulated for cutlery uses........
I agree. It reminds me of when S30V first came out. It was a great all-around steel created just for cutlery, but now there are super-steels geared towards specific applications. Definitely an interesting time to live in the knife world! 👍

Bradford is selling a prototype guardian with “MagnaTuff” 63-64hrc

Bradford’s advertising dept got a little ahead of themselves and decided that they could name the alloy all on their own.

They can’t.

It’s not - and won’t - be called MagnaTuff.

We’re all using the same prototype alloy - some of us just seem to understand what an NDA is, and others… well, maybe others just aren’t quite that sharp. 😉

Always interesting to see new developments in steels, but it's hard to see how incremental changes make much difference in the real world. Magnacut is going to be tough to beat.

Thank you for the reply. I found it rather strange that they were trying to sell off the steel already.

I'm still waiting for the specs on CPM S100V.... (and yes I know this prototype steel is not it.)

That's some real b.s. if they actually violated the NDA they had agreed to.

Exactly what I was thinking. Pretty ballsy to think they're entitled to name it, in addition to implying that there even is a "Magna" "family" abd this steel belongs in it.

Raises some questions (and an eyebrow):

1. Were they included in the authorized beta testers? And were they given enough to make a "run" of it? And what happens if the chemistry changes?

2. Were they even authorized to start marketing and selling it?

It looks bad on them at first glance in light of what Matthew Gregory Matthew Gregory is telling us (whom I believe fully, as I know him well and trust him 100% AND I know the close connections he has with these things).
