New CRKT Hi Jinx

There are three big players eating from the proceeds of this knife ... CRKT, Ken Onion and LionSteel ... so one will pay more for it (likely too much). Now add the award to the mix and the price will be substantial.

Street price is not terrible. Just ordered mine from KW for $299 - pretty much what I predicted back in post #10. I suspect that it might be found a bit cheaper later at some of the regular sources but this gives us an idea as to what street price is/will be.

Unfortunately, I'll be heading out to visit in-laws ( :( ) so knife will be waiting when I return in a couple of weeks.

The price isn't horrible. It's a little high but what lion steel isn't. My biggest issue is the weight considering the size.

I'd take a 0801cf at MAP over this at MAP any day. The hi-jinx will probably be slightly rarer as well.

I think $299.95 shipped for the CRKT Hi Jinx is actually a great price from KnifeWorks. The MAP price of $320 for the 0801CF was also great but now it's closer to $500 on the secondary market. I don't anticipate such a rise for the Hi Jinx.

The only two downsides to the Hi Jinx continue to be the weight and no steel lockbar insert.

I don't either but just pointing out tag the hi-jinx will likely be rarer than the 0801cf.

Yes in pure production numbers of 525 for Hi Jinx versus around 700-750 for 0801CF. Of course, the desirability for the 0801CF is much higher as evidenced not just by the secondary market pricing.

No matter how good the Hi Jinx is it's difficult to make yourself pay that much for a CRKT. Regardless, I commend them for trying to get into the high end market.

My thoughts exactly. ^

Not that it lightens the weight but there's a good reason for it. Ken Onion calls the CRKT Hi Jinx an "Urban Tactical Knife" that doesn't look tactical but is robust & heavy-duty! The 3.3" blade is 0.2" thick and the titanium scales 0.1875" thick! That kind of beefiness translates to extra weight!

Just ordered one from Knifeworks as well. Man, paying $300 for a CRKT really has me nervous but I am trusting that since it won Blade Show Knife of the year this year, then it has to be good. It beat out some other great knives so I am hopping i will be impressed.

One does have to wonder, for around $320 per month, what knife out there is better then a ZT 801CF. By far one of the best value knives i have ever bought.

I can't argue that point, but $320 isn't what you would pay today as that knife is now only available on the secondary market. Unless you get extremely lucky, the 0801CF will now cost a buyer $400 - $500. FWIW. :)

CRKT should have done the same thing KAI did. Keep CRKT their "budget friendly" company, and release a new brand name (like ZT is for KAI) for these higher priced knives.

I just don't think they're going to get a whole lot of people to pay that kind of price for a knife stamped with "CRKT."

The CRKT brand image does not make this knife made by LionSteel an inferior quality product. Slapping a label on a bad product doesn't turn it into a great one. In the same way a great product doesn't suddenly become a bad one when the label is attached. LionSteel's reputation gives this knife some serious credentials. I ordered one from KW. This may well be the one that will be remembered as the knife that lifted CRKT to the next level, and that is what a collector wants. If it doesn't work out then it can be sold or used ... no loss at $299.

Designed by Ken Onion.
Made by LionSteel.
Marketed by CRKT.

Where is the weakness?

What do you mean? It's 399$ at Knifeworks and Knifecenter.

Just looks clunky/chunky.

I don't get Sleipner steel either, for the price (titanium aside) I'd think M390, Vanadis, S110V or something big if you're going for premium
