New Doug Ritter folder

Almost ordered one this weekend but I really want one in a smaller version so I can EDC it more places since I have to fuss with 3" blade restrictions in several cities around my area. Mostly just to support Ritter's efforts in knife rights. Never really got along with the full-size griptilian and since this is reasonably similar I don't see myself getting one unless it's for the Knife Rights support. Probably just get the fixed blade though if that's the case. Here's to hoping for a smaller version... maybe with a button lock and assist or auto from hogue.

Yall gotta remember, this ain't a Griptilian, so there may not even be a mini version.

True, but some (at least me) have more use for a 3" blade folder than a 3.5". I have to think this will sell well though as it's a decent price for G10, M390, and an axis-like lock. I'll be curious to hear if it does better keeping the blade in as the axis lock does a poor job keeping a folder closed if dropped or you try to flick it open. I've seen plenty where you could simply open the blade with a flick of the wrist without releasing lock tension. Still, my biggest complaint is the safety that it has opened every nearly time I've accidentally dropped an axis folder, even on carpet. Just not a fan of that but it's not going to bother many. I've gone back to backlocks for a lot of knife for that reason though, stays closed better.

I've taken my apart and its almost the exact same lock. It feels the same, other than the look of it. The omega springs look identical and it preforms just as well. I own probably 50 Benchmade axis lock knives and it's as good or better than any of them. I was pleasantly surprised. But that's just me.

Other than the look of it as in the difference in lockbar studs?

I'd love to see some pics of the lock if you are willing to take the knife apart again as well- what do you mean by almost the exact same?

I wonder if the inside liners look like the Griptilian's too?

Doug did specifically say (maybe in the old thread that got locked) that the the only thing that was dimension wise that was the same was the blade. Everything else was re-engineered. So nested, skeletonized etc like a Benchmade Griptilain... probably but certainly different enough that they aren't the same.

I just realised that Hogue has also picked up another defunct Benchmade brand HK. At this point how can we be sure that Hogue and Benchmade don't have some kind of partnership? Or does BM have no idea how to put a non compete clause in their contracts?

In the instagram video I paused it and looked at it closely. It appears to have the same sub-frame build as the griptilian. I bet the main difference will be finish. Benchmade cuts a lot of corners on the final finish in a lot of places.
So you wandered along and had to do the same.
You sure seem to get in a lot of arguments. This particular post seems a bit frivolous. Did you have anything else you wanted to add about the new Ritter clone?

It wasn’t frivolous at all. Those of us who have unresolved issues on this matter, unpersuaded by Ritter’s pseudo-sermon, had nevertheless ceased posting having said what needed to be said.

Matey boy then comes along and pokes the nest with a long stick. Some might call that frivolous. I, however, would call it foolish.

I wonder if the parts are interchangeable on the Hoguetilian and the Griptilian? Anyone take theirs apart yet?

Doug has already said that interchangeability is essentially 0 except the fact they used the same Benchmade three hole clip spacing.

Then it will be fascinating to see the two different knives disassembled side by side, n’est-ce pas?

Sure a few mm off here and there, but I'm betting the liners and guts of the knife have the same basic shape of the Griptilian's, hole that the omega spring sits in, the axis bar, cutouts, middle handle screw that holds the liners in place, etc. Let's see one disassembled!
