New Doug Ritter folder

Hogue seems like one of those manufacturers who let's the process take over. From the snippets of video and footage I've seen, they have serious pride in their craft and the team looks small, but driven.

I wish they would have offered a mini with this first run. The Ritter is one of those knives that fits my hand better in a smaller profile. Nonetheless, I ordered on.

I'm intrigued by this knife even though I've never owned or handled a Hogue.

I unfortunately missed out on ordering both a Ritter Grip and a mini Ritter Grip when I had a chance from KW for cheap. I'm still kicking myself for that mistake.

I'll more than likely end up picking one of these up as I'm a fan of the blade shape and a fan of Doug himself for all he's done in the knife community over the years.

Anyone know if the handle is flat or barrel shaped like the Griptilians are?

Does not look flat.

I haven’t been this excited about a knife in a while. Hopefully the lock will be easy to manipulate, and not to recessed in the handle

While it does not look flat, it does look slimmer than the standard Griptillian

I handled it at blade west. It certainly isn't flat. It has a nice contour too it.

Halfneck is right its not excessively slim but it is noticeably thinner than a standard FRN(forget benchamdes name for it) Griptilian but still maintains an excellent hand filling grip.

Just placed my order for one of these. Excited to get it in hand.

All of my other Hogue knives have had excellent F&F and factory grinds, so I expect more of the same with this Ritter model. Pretty stoked!

I've had a few Hogue, the F&F is definitely top notch. IMO Hogue is always solid in terms of execution, however the design is their weakness. Most of them are either too funky or has bad ergonomic. This is quite rare considering how more companies have good designs but poor execution(CRKT, Benchmade and low-end Kershaw for example). This might be what contributed to many Hogue models being underrated. Hope things change for the better for Hogue now that they are starting to work with other designers like Doug.

Yes. Hogue really can do so much better if they get some new designers.

This is very exciting. The only Benchmade I ever bought with my own money was a mini Ritter Grip. This new execution appears to contain several improvements, like a slightly less bulbous handle, nicer handle material, etc. I may buy one of these.

Got my order in.

This will be my first Benchmade....Oh wait, my first Hogue. :D

Open back construction, G-10 scales, Wolff springs, deep carry clip... what's not to like ?

Well, for those of us with little time here in Afghanistan, thanks for the bump. I had read the previous post, but it's buried and I just don't have the time to search...mostly because I completely forgot about the pre-release sale from KW; mine is now on order!

A lot of great mentions go into this improved design. I can understand Benchmade reassessing production models and having to make business decisions...at least they get credit for getting Doug's first model up and running and secondary credit for their expired Axis lock patent:D

I own several Hogue folders and they are extremely clean with tight tolerances and I love their button locks. With Benchmade moving on, this just opens the door for Hogue, and they are well deserved for this publicity and partnership...they would have been one of the top companies I would have recommended from the outset. I'm just glad Doug's folder will still be in production and the change in companies just gives both a big boost.

Of all the "Griptilian" designs, Doug's was simply the best (for me); the wide-blade, full-flat grind is a real slicer with strength and Benchmade's Axis lock really added to the robustness of the folder.

Wolffe springs are simply the best and that adds a lot of experienced confidence from my foxhole. Even Les George gets a mention for the grip patter...another winning aspect to this redesign. The new "ABLE" locking mechanism continues a great feature, and I love that a deep-pocket clip is standard (very much a preference for me as well).

Again, thanks to whoever bumped this as a reminder for me:thumbsup:
