I just saw on the Facebook fan page that some lucky SOB just received an old model GSO 10 with the new peened finish!

First of all it looks awesome, but I'm amazed that I don't know anything about this!

How is this guy so lucky?

Are any other old models (like the 5's) going to have the new finish?

Why isn't everyone freaking out??

Someone please enlighten me! It's driving me crazy that I don't know!

Needle, you'll notice my response to that post was "mind exploding!" so I am in the same boat as you and just as bewildered, very curious!

Haha, yes! My mind is racing. Is there a chance our 5's could be peened? I'll love my 5 either way, but I would not mind if Guy put his peen all over it. If not then I'll get to experience it with the starters.

What is the deal here?!! I hope time will tell.

EDIT to say: From what I saw on a short instagram video from Guy, the 5's are still tumble finished and that's cool with me.

I love a good mystery...i have been snooping a thread in the Busse forum about cpm 3v vs sr101 vs infi....since i have a knife on order in all 3 steels I am very curious. I know they are all great, and i'll be happy with each, but again...the mystery!!!

Wow that 10 looks awesome! I almost want to see if there's a way to get the American Flag redone on mine!

That is an interesting thread. I think it's great that Busse is doing its own comparison tests right now, with 3V one of the steels. I've got quite a bit of 3V, a lot of SR101, and one INFI blade and I've got my own thoughts, so it will be good to see some test results when they're finished.

So any other word on this old spec 10 with the new finish? Sounds like someone won the lottery.

A couple of years ago I got pissed at FB. Every time they changed or updated security or privacy settings, they always defaulted to allow everyone to see, even though I only ever allowed friends to see. I finally had enough and closed it down. If it does not happen here, I don't know about it. So I am really dependent on you guys.

Understandable. I can't stand most of Facebook. I copied the photos to show you. I hope Mike doesn't mind.

Thank you, that is very kind of you. I guess I can view FB as a guest, I have just gotten out of the habit. Thanks again!

Man that is a beautiful 10!! That new finish looks sweet!

This is me, too Mac. Luckily this is a good bunch that very generously keeps us up to date.

Thanks for that Standard, Silver, and others that go out of the way with the pics and info

Instagram is something I'm not as involved with, but Guy has made a few big announcements through video clips on there in the last few months. Thankfully the website homepage has the instagram feed that is always updating.

Nobody has answered me on FB yet, but I did a little more snooping and this may be part of a warranty situation. The gentlemen who received this beauty had messed up the edge on a 10 the other week. I wonder if Guy repaired his 10 and put the new finish and logo on it or if he replaced it with an old model that he tested his new finish on. Either way, this guy is having a great week :D

It really comes down to great timing.

We've been using some leftover Factory 2nd blades for R&D, specifically for the new heat treat process but also to get the new machines setup. To test the heat treat we were planning to beat some up ourselves, but also get the knives in the hands of people who we know will use them and give us some quality feedback, like Black Scout Survival.

Before we had a chance to get GSO-10 handles and sheaths this guy posts about his. He was beating the crap out of his GSO-10 and it ended up bending the blade a little bit near the edge. It looks like he got a blade that had a thinner edge than typical and he was pounding on it pretty hard. We figured, who better than this manimal to test out the new heat treat? His old GSO-10 came with the handles and sheath so we didn't even have to worry about that. Win, win.

There are a few more old spec GSO-4.1s that were part of the same R&D batch so you might encounter those at some point. At least one has already gone out to one of you folks; another good timing type situation.

That GSO 10 is made to thump on hard. Real hard. I wonder if he was applying some lateral stress in the process?

He chopped through then batoned part of a 4x4. The edge got warped, but I had a hard time seeing in pictures.

He had a video of the thrashing and a pic or two if the edge.

Hey Standard, nice work getting the pics over here.

Thanks for liking my comment on FB. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I hope I actually liked your post! I went back on there to try to figure out who you were but that post was deleted because it got a little out of hand.
