What is the point of the ferro rod? I understand that they are great for starting fires and are waterproof, but what makes them superior to a lighter?

What's the purpose of having the ferro rod screw into the container? The rod itself is waterproof...But it would only make it marginally smaller in your pack. Plus you couldn't really store anything in it with the ferro rod inside.
I like the idea, but it just looks like a bigger "container" version of the already made firesteel. I like it, and will buy one. Just throwing that out there.![]()
