New Fire Kit concept

Will there be a harpoon/frog gig attachment so I can stick a stick in the tube the screw the piont attachment inplace on the frie rod. :):):):)lol

I'd love to give this one a shot. I still haven't gotten the original, and I just busted my firesteel this past Saturday. :(

The whole design is so you can fill the tube up with your favorite ESEE flavored Kool-aid, screw the ferro rod in, freeze it in your freezer and out pops an ESEE popsicle with ferro rod stick

And there you have it folks! The truth is out! It has always been there under the surface but now it comes out! He WANTS us to drink the Kool-aid.:D

Like I ever hid that fact? Why do you think we're buying the old Jonestown compound?

Umm, but how do I get my favorite frozen fruit punch out? Please tell me it comes with an anodized slushy spoon too!

Wow... this looks great! I can see you're taking full advantage of SolidWorks' new rendering capability. Awesome.

Great minds do think a like... Guess we'll have to find a way to change up our design for this year. It's not identical but striking similar.

Can't wait to see it at Blade 2011.

Rob, welcome to our forum. By all means don't change your designs because of us. There is plenty of room for everyone in this industry. Good designs are good designs. I really like yall's stuff. Onward!

I like it as well!!
I had a thought... It kinda looks like one of those mini grapling hooks.
I just bet you're crafty enough to design a grapling hook attachment for it too. Not that it would support allot of weight or anything, but it would make a way cool attachment.($$)

Where we're going with this kit is to eventually make it a complete survival kit with various attachments made to fit to the tube - all interchangeable and options after you buy the original kit. We've been working on this concept for a while after we came out with the original fire kit. Tom is the master behind the renders and tweaking the design. More to come ;)

Thanks Jeff! I've been lurking on BF for a while now so I guess it was time to make my first post. I like this thing so much it's hard to describe. It's almost as though someone reached into my brain. I was stunned when I saw it so you'll have to excuse the mess.

Truth be told, there are only so many ways to do the ferrocerium rod in-a-capsule idea so it's inevitable that we find some common ground. You guys have developed the idea further than we had with all the modularity. I had a few different concepts modeled but likely we'll take a similar approach but include a striker similar in concept to the nanoSTRIKER but different in execution. Imagine a really fat nanoSTRIKER.

I've been going back and forth about adding a compass. It is a tough one as most of the button compasses we sampled weren't worth their salt. I know there are a few good ones out there like the one in your original kit. Brunton has some nice ones too (maybe that is what you used) but not in the size we wanted. The nice quality ones start getting very expensive.

Rob, anything we can do to help you guys out don't hesitate to ask. Your stuff is good kit and we like seeing good gear on the market, even if ours or yours has similarities. The way I look at it is a good idea is a good idea. It only makes sense to morph good ideas into better ones because the bottom line, to us, and obviously to you, is to make sure quality life saving tools get in the hands of people that need them. Think about going modular on your new kits also. I think it opens a whole new door as to things you can add-on and do with it. We've got a few more ideas we're thinking about adding to ours, including signaling capability.

Jeff, thanks for the offer. We might take you up on that :). I also really enjoy the ESEE line-up. Believe it or not your original fire kit was partial motivation for the nanoSTRIKER!

I totally agree in regards to morphing ideas. I always said that good design doesn't need to be 100% new, just an evolution of what already exists. Your new design is a perfect evolution of the fire kit.

I can't wait to see what else you guys have up your sleeve!

Absolutely. Let's plan on dinner one night. I think we're trying to get another get together put in place for Blade so consider yourself invited and we can also do the pit one night.
