"Hey guys, our Rick Hinderer XM-24 giveaway is ending today! All that we require to be eligible is to register on our website www.knivesemporium.com Thanks for the support and good luck! On another note, we have finally reached 800 likes.

~ The Knives Emporium Team"

-from you The Knives Emporium Facebook page

To me, it seems as though Knives Emporium gained a good deal of clout and business from Bladeforums for hosting a "giveaway for bladeforums members only". Obviously the giveaway was not for bladeforums members only, seeing as the GA was advertised on Facebook with "all that we require to be eligible is to register on our website www.knivesemporium.com" and the fact that any schmo off the street that took 2 minutes to register on BF could win (and did).

Just my 2 cents

Edit: Also don't think that I am disgruntled because I did not win, I would have LOVED to see one of my fellow posters who contribute to the forum win the prize.
Kniferbro,

Before you make comments, read what is stated on the opening thread. We random raffle and I was specific asking all to add there Blade forum name.

Btw- The giveaway for Facebook is a different one.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking too after I looked up that user.

All I could think was you have got to be kidding me........

Great giveaway though, would have been nice to see someone that has been a member for awhile and actually contributed to the forums win though.......

Totally agree. I don't feel so much like a loser if a week later, I see a post from the winner with a nice pic of the knife and saying how happy he is to have gotten it. It's like when a cute kitten is given away, you want to make sure it goes to a good home.

Ankerson, did you read my post?

To all that are not pleased with what we do,

It sounds like some are not happy that someone with 2 posts is the winner, look at this thread how many signed-up and responded to this thread, specifically for this giveaway with very few post plus a lot of members with few posts do not even reply to the thread, they just sign-up for the giveaway that’s all.

We already made a change for this particular giveaway (only for members belonging to bladeforums) Maybe the next one we need to say (for members with a minimum of 100 posts). (Bladeforums might not like this though, filling up hard drives on their servers).

A lot of members here on bladeforums do not post every day; sometimes they don’t post in months. Why? They might have moved or have another interest amongst many other reasons. Nonetheless they are members of bladeforums and Knives Emporium and are eligible; if a member wins we try to do the best we can to reach the winner.

One time the knife got lost in the mail and we did not get it back, we mailed the winner another one.

Do a search; it’s easy to find out the happy members that posted their experience receiving their price.

We like to give everyone a fair change and wait one week for a response, if we don’t receive a response in that timeframe we draw again.

All above are facts.

Btw- The winner for the Hinderer is announced on our Web-Site.

Thank you all for participating.

"A unique Free raffle/giveaway for members belonging to bladeforums only."

FYI - I believe membership is a paid status here on BladeForums. So he would not qualify anyways. Registration and Membership are not the same.

George, your signature states that the giveaway for the XM-24 was FOR BLADEFORUMS MEMBERS ONLY

Yes you had a facebook giveaway, for a Spyderco Southard Flipper

However I could be wrong and you are in fact giving away 2 XM-24's, 1 to the BF contest and 1 to a Facebook member both of which contests were run from the exact same dates and ended at the same time with out Knives Emporium ever making a mention of the Facebook GA for an XM-24.

Again I will state this is not me being angry that I did not win, it is simply me seeing shady business tactics being employed on a community of which I love.

I did read it. :)

I find it odd that a member that joined 10 days ago with 2 posts, both giveaways won....

Both posts were basically the same as in WOW yadda, yadda.......

How about something like only for paying members next time, like Gold members and above.... That might stop that from happening next time since they would actually have to contribute something to Blade Forums to enter........

You can do what you want though as it was a great giveaway, although it would have been nice to see a member win that actually contributed to the forums rather than one with 2 posts that said WOW yadda, yadda and joined 10 days ago......

Just my opinion though.....

Membership in BladeForums is only paid Membership. Joining and becoming a Member are separate items. Technically this person does not qualify under their rules. Drawing should be done again for actual Members of the forum.

Also the drawing is 3 days late for some reason. "We will draw a winner on April 21, 2013"

Some of you need to lighten up. It is a free knife afterall. Not like we're paying to enter or win.

However that is true.....

People who join are Registered users.....

Members are paid members, Gold members and above.

So yes there is a difference.....

It's the principle of the thing for me, being fair and all.

Didn't care if I won or not personally, I likely would have just tested it and did a pass around or something....

Seelow, I think the point I am trying to make has been overlooked.

Bladeforums.com is a premier community of knife enthusiasts, that's why dealers must pay to have a dealer membership. It is of my thinking that Knives Emporium gained a significant amount of respect, advertisement, and business based on the fact that Knives Emporium was so generous as to hold a GA for bladeforums members only.

After seeing that the evidence points to the contrary, that this was not an exclusive giveaway to Bladeforums, I think the business gains received by Knives Emporium were basically scammed from the membership at BFC. If members had known from the beginning that this giveaway was not exclusive to BFC, I believe the clout/business that I'm sure Knives Emporium has been seeing over the past few months would be lower.

If a presidential candidate promises something, and you vote for them based on that promise, and then the promise turns out to be false... how do you feel?

30K hits: Pretty inexpensive advertising.

Here is a quote I liked. So we have a large community base and Knives Emporium used a give away to collect data from the forum. Everyone had a choice whether to participate and share their information or not. A winner is selected and technically does not qualify per Knives Emporium stated qualifications. It calls this thread into question. I'm just looking out for the community and don't want to see it exploited for "inexpensive advertising" as RobertK keenly pointed out.

So there was a parallel give away for the same knife on Facebook?

Thats what they claim, although NO mention of this ~$1000 knife giveaway can be found anywhere...

Here is a picture of the posting advertising the XM-24 giveaway where no mention of bladeforums can be found

So they were giving away the same knife that was an exclusive to BladeForum members only. Sunday was indeed the 21st.

Might also seem that the winners are coming from New Mexico or Texas. I think Knives Emporium is from Texas. Stephen Slampa's that I can find live in Texas and or New Mexico. Knifemachine is from NM. Just seems strange.

Well a few posts up, I called them out on this Facebook posting.

Which they replied "that the FB giveaway was a different one"

So the FB giveaway was either for the Southard (which already ended), or they owe a Facebook member an XM-24, or they are lying.
