New from Zombie tools

It looks cool; not sure I like the crook in the handle, I think it would bother me if I choked up on it for finer work.
I have never seen their stuff in person, it would have to be impressive to justify that price point for me.

There's little reason, design-wise, for a tanged axe not to have the handle running directly atop the axis of rotational balance.

I find it amusing that the greatest disdain for people who like sharp objects comes from other people who like sharp objects!

I don't want one, but I don't feel the urge to judge those that do or impart weird characteristics to them.

Because it's easy to be mean on the internet.

With three pages so far, I don't think I've seen much commentary on the design itself. At four pounds, I'd say they need to be slow zombies. :)

Comments on design, fellows?

I would caveat that I don't know what I'm talking about. Having said that, it's my feeling that an ax for cutting/chopping wood and other work would have opposing ideal attributes to a battle ax (ideal....not all). So for the ZT model, which I would classify as a battle ax, I would prefer a horn and a smaller beard - the horn to provide a point in a 30 - 45 degree thrust (look at the Cold Steel Viking Ax); and the smaller beard to avoid potential danger to the lead hand chocking up. I think a bit less weight would make it more maneuverable in hand, a plus in a combat situation.

As a compromise, I think the ax would do at least a passable job at everything, probably a lot of things well; but then, I would not do an ax as a primary weapon. So, I would defer to what others have said: I like it, and wouldn't turn it down if it were given to me; but the cost is a more preferable ZT item, or a significant chunk of the cost of a good rifle.

I just don't get the beard and the fact that if your fighting off zombies with something heavy like that over committing as a result opens you up to injury. Something like a katana or a cutlass seem like they would be much better suited to killing mindless hordes of undead humans.

It is always entertaining to watch the reactions to this company around here.

They use good steel and they have some interesting designs.

I ordered a d'Capitan a month or so back, excited to give one of their "toys" a try.

I can say my Hellion has certainly lived up to my expectations.

It's sharp, it's fast, chops like a demon on bath salts and definitely very rugged.

I purchased the Apokatana last week and I'm pretty excited to get it. If you look at the whole knife collecting spectrum objectively I'd say at least 80% of the blades out there are priced in a range that makes them impractical. You could buy a 20 dollar knife and beat the crap out of it and have 10 backups just in case for less than the cost of a custom so it all boils down to what aesthetically excites you. I have no use for a sword but as a collector the design called to me. Us collectors have a certain amount of disposable income otherwise I doubt we'd be here.

I have the Rat Bastard. It is absolutely ace to hold. I just want to chop lots of wood up with it.
