New GEC #13 Congress series (Clerk, Speaker Jack and Whip)

Closing action W&T on my Clerk is very crisp and a stout pull too.

Once again I'm wondering if you can polish or seal the Muslin Micarta? Blue dye stains are not so appealing really :D:D

The Whip is a much softer pull and close than my #14 - that may be due to the lever advantage of the longer blade and nail nick vs. short blade and long pull. I'd put it on par with a Vic SAK, but with much nicer action. Clearly some variability in the springs!

The staining to the micarta is fine by me. It got a coating of bovine claret earlier, and it turned out in pink spots! Definitely one that will show any kind of carry, especially with those gorgeous brushed bolsters.

I agree! I do like the ebony Whip I have. I was going to sell it at first but then I noticed the blade is a little proud and will catch your hand with the tip. I would not sell a knife like that so on Wednesday it's going to have the kick filed down slightly. I had to do the same thing with the last Northwoods Fremont I have so it is not a big deal as long as it's done slowly.

BTW I took my medium stone and spend a little time very slowly taking down the kick until it was perfect. I also washed out, blew dried, and lubed the pivot and now it's like a new knife! Definitely a keeper now.

Holy mackerel. That's the most staining, I've seen. Not that I'm any expert. ,

Yeah, I remember seeing a little bit of it on some of those #77's (like what you see on the #13's), but I lucked out with what I think might be a one-of-a-kind. :D

Here's my stag whip. I'm very pleased with the similarity between the scales:

You have reason to be pleased rye_a !!!!
You have some Stag there with some fairly deep texture and fairly short transitions .

Nice useful knives. It is interesting to compare these two. The main blade on the 2-blade clerk is cut from thicker steel, then offset-ground to clear the pen. The blade outlines appear the same.

Charlie A Prince of Clerks:D Some nice bark going on there  I find this a very pleasant pattern and as you say, useful.

Thanks, Will

Some nice looking 13's Charlie 🤙 if I had to pick (which I don't ) I would land on the Whip. I think these are the most elegant "pocket knives" in awhile.

Sharp and ready to go! My ebony speaker has been wanting some pocket time so I brought myself to the task. Not perfect, but cuts pretty well!

The pattern is quickly growing on me. Stunning to behold, solidly constructed and useful to boot. It's a great match for my makrolon Lamy 2K.

Honestly, I had shrugged off the #13 run as being uninteresting and I had no intentions of purchasing one. Then I saw this stag handled Clerk still for sale and thought, why not?
I have to say that this is a beautiful knife. The slender wharncliffe blade seems to flow out of the handles.
Although I had read over the specs, I was expecting it to be smaller and pen knife-like, but this is a substantial knife.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this last minute purchase. I carried it all week and was actively looking for things to cut and boxes to open in the office, LOL. Every time I pulled it out of my pocket, it made me smile! 😀
If you were on the fence like me, don't wait any longer...get one before they are gone.

Wow, Ratbert!
Very nice knife you have there and I am certainly glad that you and I both are enjoying our new knives. I agree with you this knife is substantial and it does make me smile.

Yes, I'm glad to have pulled the trigger on this one. I like the way the channels on your stag run all the way under the bolster...one end of mine does that on the pile side. I don't think I've seen a single stag model from this run that didn't look great.

I finally got a family portrait of my 13's. I didn't purchase any of the Whittler's, for some reason they just didn't ring my bell. However, I am liking the Clerk and the Whip a lot! :D
