New GEC #14 Boys Knife

Thank you quaboag for the picture and Jerry for the pull strength information , you have both put my mind at ease, now i just have the 10 to 15 day wait for it to arrive.

I always have reservations about buying knives without trying them out.

My last GEC 15 stainless clip was about a 7, far heavier than any of my other 15's. It was barely pinchable, but I had no problem opening it with the nail nick (which is unusual for my bad thumb). Spears can present a problem for me, if the pull is too heavy, as they normally can't be pinched open.

Got 2 more in today. Here's a side by side of the nifebright and smooth ivory bone SFO from gunstockjacks. The nifebright has a pull around 7-8.

Yes, and thank you for pointing it out. I thought it was just liner paper! Mine is titled "The Irish Setter (2)" and the knife is the Antique Yellow Jig Bone.

Here's a question: Is the photo on the tube young Lyle?
My antique yellow came with "The Irish Setter (2)" and the rust red with "The Snake (1)".

My rust red also came with "the snake". I quite enjoyed that little surprise; though at first I was disappointed there was no button. Anyone have an idea the source of these vignettes?

OK darn this thread lol !
Just ordered one 😎

Yes Dean, I was two . I had thought I was going to write two back labels, one for me and one for all GEC knives.I ended up writing 6 stories(one for each GEC handle release and one for my knives) and my back label.

This back label for my knives might shed some light:

"Bill Howard asked permission to use my Lick Creek brand name for this run of boys knives, and my friend Charlie Campagna’s #14 barlows. Lick Creek is an actual place in Wayne Co. WV. ,where all my family originated. Whatever made Bill think this fellow from WV could write stories people might enjoy, I’ll never know. But he did, and I’ve attempted to put on paper elements in my life I thought might be of interest to others. You’ll find these stories inside each GEC boys knife and the few SFOs of mine.

I’m thankful to my daughter Maggie for editing these for me,and for all those real people that inspired these actual events(unless disclosed otherwise).

Lick Creek stories epitomize the people and humor of Wayne Co. as it was, and is. I expect these narratives will fondly remind you of events in all of our lives, for they surely have enriched mine.

I hope you enjoy the knives and the stories they tell."

The Great Eastern Cutlery: SFO, #14 - Tidioute - Lick Creek Boy's Knife - Camel Bone are up at KSF. I just got one.
I'm still a newbie and hope I haven't broken any rules. Guess I'll find out shortly.

Thanks, I thought I was OK, but so many have missed out on knives lately...it just seemed like a no-brainer to spread the word. All set to love it when it gets here.

You're good, KSF is a paid member. You're going to love the 14.

Alan

I was really looking forward to seeing what the Autumn Gold Jig Bone SFO was going to look like, but unless my eyes have gone crazy, it looks exactly like the Antique Yellow.

Haha I was waiting for someone to comment on that. Maybe when they show up at DLT they will show more of a difference. Reminds me of one of those "find the differences in these two photos".

They do look very similar. DLT sent out an email notifying people that had them on pre-order how close the two looked and asking if you would still like to purchase the knife.

Interesting. Maybe it's not too late for a "this is autumn gold" blade etch.. I have seen autumn gold knives that looked more like antique yellow and vice versa. Either way it's a beautiful knife but I'm sure a little bit of a bummer for them seeing as it's their SFO.

Hmmm, not what I would have expected if I ordered a knife in Autumn Gold jig bone. Bummer.

Wow .... 7-8 pull. I bought two (one in the nifebright for my daughter and one in the antique yellow bone for myself) and both have a 4 - 5 (closer to 5) pull. Don't know if I could tolerate a 7-8 pull on one this particular knife.

Here's my antique yellow.

Just ordered one more in camel bone (really like that one). Hope the pull is the same as the other two I bought.

Can you pinch open these 14's ?
Regardless I hope when mine arrives it's a 4 to 5 pull also 👍

No, I can't...there isn't enough blade to grab on. It is a small knife after all.
That's what I figured but hoped you could since it would make a harder pull a little more tolerable. My #92 has around a 3 to 4 pull it's a real sweetie .
Love a light pull especially on a smaller knife or one you can't pinch open but thats just my preference.

Whoa 7 or 8 would be impossible for me, my Rust Red is a 4 or 5.
