New GEC #14 Boys Knife

I finally received all of my 14's. All SFO's from each dealer. Covered every two blade except the Lyle and Charlie options. And two single blade SFO's thrown in.

New to me 14. I cannot believe how nice these GEC knives are. Blew away my expectations. Already forming a nice patina after a day of use.

Not sure why I waited so long to get one.

Looking good, Gizler00! The antique yellow is (in my opinion) the best looking #14. :D

This is my first #14 for me. Its the stone wash blue SFO from DLT. I think it would be nicer with an ez open notch. Other then a tiny burr between one of the liners and the cover the fit and finish is perfect. I would have been happier with slightly less pull but I can manage it.

I didn't realize this was a SFO knife. Different dealers ordered different scales and so forth I guess?

The nifebrite has become a great little EDC. Others have said it, but these LCs are so well made. Perfect snap, pull, centering, and finish.

Beautiful knives here! I'm patiently awaiting a single blade #14 in OD linen micarta, along with a #65 in Bloodwood.

I just jumped into GEC's, my first being a couple of days ago with a #65 in maroon linen micarta. It is an incredibly well finished knife, and has already taken over my pocket from my modern folders.

Great 14's guys!!!! They seem to be a home run for GEC, judging by the amount out there. And for good reason!

Exactly, with very good reason. I wholeheartedly agree with Gizler, the antique yellow being my fave. Single blade to carry, Lyle's version to hang onto. Great value IMHO and a knife that will just become more popular as time passes.

The nail pull sure looks to be pretty close to the pivot, providing less mechanical advantage than a nail nick closer to the tip of the blade. I think they did a miss-step with that design, and should've modified or dispensed with the swage in favor of better nick placement.

That can be a downside of the long pull, but I don't really think it's a problem on these. Out of the ten #14's I ended up with, there isn't one that I would say has a pull stronger than a 5, maybe a 6. They're all pretty easy to open. Nothing compared to the long-pull #25 I have. :D

I was concerned about this when I saw the pics too but now that I've gotten one in my hand, I agree with Barrett's comment above. In my opinoin, it's not a problem on these #14's.

This is always a bit of a dilemma for me. I love the look of a long pull and swedge, but I have terribly weak nails. :o
Fortunately, the pull on my #14 is light enough to open comfortably.

Driften , if you're having trouble with the pull, you might want to flush out the pivot with some light oil. Sometimes there's some buffing compound in there binding up the works. I often do this with new knives and it can smooth out the action considerably.

I'm pretty happy with the pull on both of mine. As you can see the ebony has been getting some use. The RBB did too yesterday.
