NEW GEC - 571326 Geppetto Whittler

This one is just fantastic. Much better pulls and action than the sandstone I received. I think the higher price on this one was justified, at least for me.

I wonder if they ever considered calling this bone “Cougar clawed”. I’ll post a comparison to my Cougar clawed 35 in a little bit.

Very nice. Been eagerly awaiting to see pics of this one. Mine is on it's way. Never had this pattern.

My keepers of the run. I tried twice to get a good richlite example, but both had lots of fit & finish issues.

Hopefully. One of mine had some of the richlite chipped off near a pin and the other had really sluggish action. Both had huge bolster to cover gaps.
Not good! I overpaid for the thing on the secondary market. All I ask for is a knife deserving of its reputation and price. Six months from now I won't remember what I paid for a knife or some other tool or toy. But six years from now I'll still be enjoying it if it's the quality it's supposed to be!

My little 57 arrived Saturday. It’s a good one! The blades are perfectly placed and aligned. No gaps anywhere between liners, covers, or bolsters. Perfect crosshatching in the richlite, with a perfectly set diamond shield. The shield is so well set it’s even slightly recessed beneath the surface of the crosshatching. That diamond shield is a great choice for the crosshatched richlite!

Blade action was lazy and a little gritty out of the tube. But after my usual flush with Dawn and warm water, followed by a splash of WD40, the secondary blades operate smoothly and have a positive but gentle snap at opening, closing ,and half-stop positions. The main blade still has some friction against the sides of the tang during opening and closing, with the same gentle snap at open and closed position. I expect it’ll smooth out with time.

The action is light, as expected from the comments I’ve read here. But it’s completely acceptable for a knife of this size and expected use. It’s real similar to the action on the two 59s I have.

I think the sandstone bone is the eye catcher in this group. It says “I’m beautiful. Take me to town and show me off! But be careful to not let those brass liners turn me green!”

This richlite model just screams “USE ME!” No worries about discoloration with this one.

I’m going to enjoy this little knife! I told myself I wasn’t going to get one of these when the notices started going out. But after seeing the pictures and reading the comments by people who got one, I relented as usual and had to have one. Thanks to the comments here, my expectations were prepared for the soft action. So I’m completely pleased with my new little cutting tool! Thanks to all who posted comments and pictures!

My 57 stag cut bone has more of a rare grilled meat look. Don’t sleep on these 57’s if you can find them under $200, especially the Northfield versions. All of my Northfields have been great.

That looks better than the “grilled chicken” 66’s that came out last year.
