New Goddard

Herr Deacon's 2nd pic is literally 'to-scale' on my monitor. I put my stretch up against the screen to be sure. Once again, I'm amazed at the design genius of the Stretch in packing so much blade and edge into that compact handle. While being no bigger than the Delica, it's just an itsy bit shy of all the edge in that Goddard.

Well I ordered mine... looks cool, I hope the FRN doesn't give way to blade play over time. I think it will make an awesome edc/food prep knife.

You wont get bladeplay. That FRN is resilient stuff . Its a good knife that will last years of EDC use. It is on the longer side but it carries like a much smaller knife. Its a great classic design .

Just treat it like a linerless knife not a fixed blade.

I would love if they made a liner model like the Endura and I dont get why they dont. skeletonized embedded liners wouldnt add more than 1/2 ounce to the wght of an already very lite knife and the benefits would far outwght the compromise.

They would have to make an all new mold for the handle scales, rather than using the old mold. It would just add to the overall cost of the knife.

I was under the impression that this Goddard is new. It is the big Goddard, and the others were the medium and small. Not to mention weren't the older ones Micarta not FRN?

nccole,

I believe the FRN scales were around for previous versions of the Goddard. I might be remembering wrong, but I think all of the FRN sprint models have been the largest size.

The knife is identical to previous runs. Only difference is the color of the scales.

I have to say for the money this should be a better knife. I love the design but would never buy another one without improvements. a plastic handle knife with no liners and VG10 steel should not be 80+ dollars. This is one of those Spyderco models that for whatever reason is really not a good deal for the money spent. My opinion only here . you can come down on me for saying it . I love Spydercos but they dont always hit the bullseye

still a good knife but it could be so much better. i would gladly pay another $30 and have liners and S30V though I like VG10 and its a good steel .

Can you imaging this knife with all that and G10 scales in colors? That would be amazing!!

I'm not sure if I'd want it in G-10, or have them produce it in micarta again. I do love the feel of Spydero's micarta. S30V would be nice too, but I'm sure all of that would add quite a bit more than $30 to the final price tag.

I guess I could understand the complaints about the price if this was a regular production model, but I can also understand why it costs more now. Sure, it's only VG-10 and unlined FRN, but it's also a very small production run, and I'm sure there are royalties being paid to the original designer.

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't think adding liners to the FRN models was an improvement. :-p

I have a Goddard and I think it is a wonderful knife just the way it is. I bought mine because I liked the design and because it is a sprint run. I will not use it like a knife with liners but it is a lot tougher than I expected.

Anyone have one that can compare to an Endura 4? I compared the specs but would love to see next to each other.

you are mistaken :)

excuse the crappy picture

Thanks for the comparison brother!! Have a preference for one over the other. Also, which hides better in the pocket.. I've grown tired of "wide" knives (spine to back of grip closed).

None hide well. The Endura 4 saber blade is my favorite light/thin knife, no Emerson opener. I'm still amazed by the Goddard and haven't even begun to think of carrying it. I daily carry ZT clipped and Buck 424 in bottom of same pocket with folding scissors in bottom of opposite front, left, pocket.

see it dont look so big next to an Endura and Endura is a midsize folder. It is alittle wider in the pocket though not bad and its so thin!!

Love this blade, have had a small Goddard hanging on my wall for years and it's great to finally have one that fits in my hands! It feels great, love the weight and think it's nice that there's some more frn sprints being made.

I was planning to wait a little while before buying one, but then today everywhere I looked showed them OOS. Well, new graham had two left, now one; I just didn't want to risk it. the goddards have my absolute favorite blade shape. I had one of the original micarta jrs., until an HVAC repairman stole it, and after trying to find a replacement I finally broke down and ordered one of the maroon FRN ones. I hate the combo edge, though, which is the only reason I didn't get one of the white micarta ones; and my maroon one disappeared somewhere during my last few moves. I hate VG-10, I'm not wild about FRN, and I despise combo edges, but I love the design of goddard's knives enough that I'll keep buying them as long as they keep being released. I really do wish sal would do a sprint run in a M390 and G10, plain edge, tip down carry, but I'll take what I can get.
