New & Improved: DPx HEST/F

Just a word of warning to others. The HEST pocket clip is quite brittle and will easily snap. I was trying to bend mine for a firmer grip on my pocket, and "SNAP". Now that is something most of us have probably done with other pocket clips on other knives, either loosening or tightening them, as needed. The HEST clip does not lend itself to this. So now it is REALLY deep pocket carry. :o

I am not replacing mine. I actually like this one better without the clip. It feels much better in the hand.

My HEST came yesterday and it's perfect. The lock up is absolutely solid with no blade play whatsoever. It flips open smoothly. The fit and finish is very nice.

Horn Dog,I'm glad I read your post because I was going to try to bend mine. The clip is really the only part of this design that I dislike. It doesn't grip the pocket tightly enough. I'm not certain I trust it to keep the knife in place reliably. I suppose I could keep in my pocket but that seems like a waste of the opening feature.

Overall though it's a great knife. I'm going to carry it for awhile and see how it works out.

Stilgar,

tell me what kind of clip you like. I made the clip full enough for 5.11's work pants and thicker jeans, also belts and military molle etc. But its easy to design and make a different clip for a tighter fit.

for me the clip works just fine on jeans and cargo pants. i havn't had any issues with it slipping. i would like a black clip and if the mr.dp logo was on it that would be even better. that and coyote tan scales, or something similar. very few knives with anything but black or green scales out there.

take it easy

I wear fairly thin Cabela's hiker pants. The clip would be fine for jeans or heavier cloth. I do not consider the loose clip a defect at all. It had to be made for really rugged outdoor gear. Some clips are too tight, some too loose. Usually I just bend them to fit what I wear, but the clip for the HEST is brittle for that. No big deal. My hikers have a knife pocket with a velcro flap. I carry a pistol in my front pocket.

I've tried it with a pair of jeans and The Duluth Trading "firehose cloth" pants. It's a pretty loose fit with both.

RYP: The design of the clip is fine. I'd simply prefer one that hugged the handle more tightly. I would be quite happy to pay for an alternative design as an option. It's really nothing more than a personal preference. I like to feel a little bit of resistance while drawing the knife.

It's a minor gripe Again, my HEST/F is great!

We have been replacing clips because we thought we could put two holes AND bend the clip on a tempered stainless stone washed laser engraved clip but I think we will go with a solid clip and put more "spring" into it rather than hardness. The original proto had a softer untempered clip without the holes and worked fine.

Well if you do get a supply of the new springy pocket clips, let us know and I'll get one. I am still using and carrying my HEST/F every day.

DPx Customer Service came thru. My replacement HEST folder arrived today. It is flawless, like the loaner I have been using. Lockup is solid. It opens easily. It's sharp. The blade is centered in the handle. I will send this unused one to Jeff, as I scatched his up a little using it. I suppose if I tried real hard I could get part of one of my fat fingers inside the handle to cut myself. Or I could just take a pointed stick and shove it in my eye. One is as likely as the other.

Thank you for your excellent customer service, Mr. Pelton.

Hey HD, how long did it take DPx to get you a knew knife? Sent mine in for a problem, just wondering what the turn around was for yours.

"Thank you for your excellent customer service, Mr. Pelton.

stop that...you are going to ruin my reputation. :))

We welcome all DPx HEST owners to enjoy the experience of being treated the way I would want to be treated. We are not perfect but we try. After spending some time in the factory I can also vouch for Gianni's passion to make sure every customer gets a perfect knife. Will be posting some pics etc at the DPx Gear site.

Broke the clip on mine within 24hrs. "Twanged" out on a seatbelt, and broke when I attempted to bend it back to shape.

Customer service said they'll send a new clip, and that solid clips are in the works.

Love the knife otherwise.

About a week. And we are on opposite coasts. I suppose I'll get a new pocket clip for mine when the new more flexible ones arrive. Other than me breaking the clip, this one is flawless.

Unfortunately after a couple of weeks carrying my HEST it has developed some vertical blade play and the amount continues to increase. Pushing the lock bar in takes up the slack but wiggling the blade up and down pops it back out. The Rotoblock eliminates the play.

I still think I'm going to send it back..*sigh* I'd really hoped I had a good one.

stilgar keep us posted on the process and results, I likewise have been using mine as an EDC and was getting a little play in the lockbar so was thinking of sending it in to DPx for a tuneup. But other than that I absolutely love it so far.

Hate to bring this back up, but today, my clip broke after carrying it daily for the last month. There's some play in the blade lockup too, seems I have a first run production.

The second day of carrying it, the clip got sprung, I emailed DPX about a new clip, they said they were out, and some more would be in. Now, the clips broke off, and I'm emailing them again.

Just wanted to interject.

DPx Gear products come with lifetime warranties. Clips are here and going out next week.

Great to hear Robert! I emailed customer service about the black clips, but they hadn't yet received the order, do you know if any of the black came in???

Still haven't heard about my clip yet. Guess I'll need to email again to see about getting one. Warranties are fine, I guess, but don't mean jack when you have to wait over a month to get a replacement part. Wow.

It would seem that I have a clip coming sometime this week. Just an update.
