New job, new work knife! CHALLENGE: It has to be freaking sweet.

That looks a lot like mine on the bottom there, Whitty. Great knife, really been enjoying this one, thank you.

I think you would really like the blade shape on this one, Comeuppance. I kinda tend to agree with NaturalMystic that the 0450 is a good choice if emphasizing the low profile, non-terrifying aspect, not sure exactly how much emphasis you need to place on this. I was just giving the Viper Dan a second look after seeing it pop up in another thread, myself.

DPX Hest as mentioned by dufus53 is a great option. Another option that came to mine is the ZT0808. This knife looks somewhat gentlemanly but packs a heck of a punch. I have personally been insanely impressed with the fit, finish and sharpness of this knife. It is a knife I would not be afraid to carry in an office environment, church or for harder task days. Just a thought!

It does not hurt that they are super cool to anodize!

Hah, I actually got one of those for my girlfriend on her birthday. It really is a hell of a knife.

Edit: She named it "water" because it's so smooth and the design flows so well.

Edit 2: Ex-girlfriend, actually. Unrelated to the knife thing. She was actually in tears because she loved it so much.

Dude, come on.

Out of all the ProTech knives, you cannot find ONE that is work friendly?

The Runt?

The Rescue?

The Godson?

The TR-3?

Need I go on...?

Well I know you have stated you like the cold Steel tuff lite. I think the nishijin scale dragonfly in zdp is the perfect work knife. Classy, not intimidated, fantastic utilitarian design and zdp from spyderco. I'll bet it takes the tufflite out of your pocket!

I've had a saved ebay search for that knife for over a year now, just waiting for one to pop up for less than $120...!

I really like my ZT0770s, the DLC coating on the M4 version didn't really provide enough corrosion protection for me (I work in a paintshop so I have to wear a paintsuit and sweat a lot in a humid environment) as I started to see rust blooming underneath. So, I bought a ZT0770CF in elmax and slapped a 0566 clip on it for deep carry. Love it, get a lot of complements for it when I carry it. But these days my Benchmade 940 with a black Contego clip stays in my pocket the majority of the time. Great blade length for size, doesn't take up a lot of pocket real estate, S30v is easy to get sharp and maintain, easy to open and close one handed ambidextrously and for whatever reason people don't seem to be intimidated by the green handles and purple spacer.

Kershaw Leek is a great, mostly straight, spring assisted (not quite auto, but fast), pocket clipped, customer friendly edc. knife.

The new american lawman from cold steel in xhp is a very fitting choice. Very sheeple friendly yet very capable.

Not to overly simplify things, but I pretty much consider any modern folder with CF or wood on it, or any slip joint as non-threatening office knives. For some reason, when people see some of my knifes with basic g-10, I hear a lot of "what are you afraid of?", or "who you planning to kill?". But if I show off something with CF or wood on it, I just get a "nice", or "pretty". Go figure. So many opinions based on TV or media propaganda.

Anyways, I really like ALL of the newer ZT offerings. Probably the least threatening would be the smaller ones, 450, 808, 900, etc. The 770CF has been mentioned a lot, and is a great knife. Other than the speed of the blade, very non-threatening. But my faves are 562CF, and 452CF. The 452CF carries really well because of it's width, but we open, it just "looks" like a really big blade. The 562CF is right in the middle with 3.5"ish blade, sturdy enough to take a punch, but not really threatening looking. Have one with me in the office now.

In the "hole" knives, I won't mention my new compression lock. Ooops, just did. But one of my fave Spiders is the Domino. Good looking (mines a blue weave, great looking), great flipping action if you want fast, and of course the spydie hole if you want medium to slow opening speeds. Sturdy enough for average knife tasks, but also a good slicer with a FFG.

I have not tried the BM 940-1 yet, but would really like to. That would be another great option from the ones I've handled.

I know all of these are fairly vanilla options, but then that is how I interpret "non-threatening".

Could wait for a Microtech LUDT since it is an auto and no necessarily overly intimidating. Could always grab a UMS and add CF or Cocobolo. Other than those I'd go with what people before me have said. Good luck.

All of the knives mentioned here are wrong, unless of course someone has already mentioned the Matt Diskin Fire.

It's expensive, but you got a much better job right? What better way to celebrate than combining your passion for knives with that job in a way that solves the "combat knife" problem and feels really special at the same time. Besides, D/A knives are awesome. The knife equivalent of a secret rotating wall passage.

You don't necessarily have to get the compound grind if it's not your thing. There are different finishes too.

Did I mention it's an auto?

How about a Benchmade 940? Very sweet little low profile knife. Maybe the one in s90v and carbon fiber...

Adding to the ridiculously wide range of contenders: What are some opinions on the Benchmade 808 Loco? It's definitely no combat knife, but it looks super cozy and utilitarian while still looking good. The price isn't great, but, whatever. I'm already buying an unnecessary thing for my awesome new job, so budgets are already a silly idea.

Also, I've been sitting on this:

For quite some time. I've been trying to sell it, but, now that I think about it, it just might be the knife I'm looking for... Maybe I should just send that sucker off to SOG for a new blade?

How about an Al Mar sere 2000, or shrike or nomad.
Fallkniven folders or small fixed-juni, kolt, tk 3, p,pxl

I own a Benchmade 940-1 and it is absolutely amazing. By far one of the most beautiful non-customs out there. However, if you like a more unique knife, take a look at the following. It's a little less popular because it is an exclusive. It is a heftier knife and it also has CPM-M4 instead of S90V.

Or you can just get a regular Benchmade Griptilian and put carbon fiber scales on there from Cuscadi.com

Benchmade 761 ti mono lock in m390

Kershaw Knockout Elmax?

Zt 550 s35vn?

Benchmade vicar S30v?
