New job, new work knife! CHALLENGE: It has to be freaking sweet.

Adding to the ridiculously wide range of contenders: What are some opinions on the Benchmade 808 Loco? It's definitely no combat knife, but it looks super cozy and utilitarian while still looking good. The price isn't great, but, whatever. I'm already buying an unnecessary thing for my awesome new job, so budgets are already a silly idea.

The Loco is huge. Too burly for my taste, the handle is wholesome, really fills out the hand. Felt like a tumor in my pocket.
The custom pivot hardware looks awesome though.

The slot cut out isn't as comfortable to open as a round hole.

Its a high quality piece, but not my style.

I'd rather have a ZT 562cf

The Spyderco Memory is a very sheeple friendly knife. I haven't bought one yet as I've hinted to the wife that it would make a good Christmas gift. I'll buy one afterward if she doesn't produce.

Well my opinion on the loco differs, but your statements are still accurate. The Loco is my constant edc paired with my DF. I've been blown away by it. It IS heavy duty, so if lightweight is a must it may not be the best option. That considered, I never notice its weight in jeans or khakis, and think it carries very well for its size. It will not carry well in workout shorts though I also have been incredibly impressed with the blade geometry. Despite its thick stock, this thing slices beautifully and the wide flat grind is deceptively functional. Also, for a.large knife I find it does pretty well in "small knife" roles like boxcutting, etc. Incredible for food prep, great ergos and its just a beast. I wish it had a 50/50 choil. It's only flaw IMO. I don't have any other knife like it.

Big life change and new job here. I moving to the U.S. V.I. I got this Koenig Zenaida for a discreet island EDC.

A light strong knife with great steel is the Manix2 with s110v.
A light knife that is very strong is the Cold Steel American Lawman. Interestingly, dark blades are not as scary to non knife people as silver blades. Saw this study referenced more than 20 years ago and I believe it holds true today.

I like the look of the Loco, but have a similar impression. Whenever I'm at a store that has one for sale I have to fondle it. The conclusion I've come to is it's not an "office knife". I have a white collar job and have to wear slacks or Dockers when meeting with with clients. The Loco wouldn't work for me as a "work knife"- sad to say.

So you have a new shiny job - congrats! What's your dress code? Are you working with outside clients/customers or co-workers only? If your new company has a "zero tolerance" policy with weapons take it seriously. I watched a National Director lose his job over a BS weapons issue. My litmus test for an office knife is "will I get fired if my boss sees this". Sucks, but reality. Now, I've used a Spyderco Para in front of my Regional Director and I still have my job. A co-worker commented though "God that's a big knife". I told him it was under 3 inches (not true? My bad) and that he should calm down...which he did. So for me a Spyderco Para is about the size limit I'm comfortable using in an office setting.

With all that said, 90% of the time I'm working from my home office these days...so that Loco just might fit the bill...In all seriousness though, if your employer has a weapons policy know it.

Hey, check out the new Kizer Pinkerton Rogue. There's a thread on it in the Kizer subforum. It looks like it checks most of your boxes besides automatic...only problem is, nobody knows the price or release date.

Maybe you should try a Cold Steel Lucky. It's even got a pocket clip! It's on my wish list and I want to know how others like it. :)

Halfneck's suggestion is also a good one. Can never go wrong with Victorinox. Unfortunately, if I recall they don't have pocket clips.

Might get a little haterade over this but for a larger knife my Benchmade 808 Loco is beyond incredible. Its worth a look I assure you

The only haterade you're likely to encounter is for bumping a thread that died 4 months ago. Let me prevent that from happening again with a little thread loctite.
