Cleaned up, handle scales on and drilled and partially shaped. It will have brass pins and dual copper lanyard tubes. Scales are local walnut that was sawed off my uncles farm in Ashland, Missouri. The wood is probably at least 20 years old.
Stacy advised me to work on getting the bevels flatter and I tried my best.

I really like it the way it is. The unfinished steel works with that design IMO.

Rule #2... crop the photos if you fail to follow rule #1. On second thought, just crop the photos. People don't need to spend time downloading pictures of your kitchen sink or your toes. ;)

Got some more done. This is actually the second pair of scales. I was pinning the other set and screwed them up pretty bad, so I had to take them off. This new set is much denser, darker and extremely hard. More black walnut.

Cool looking knife Calvin. It was great being able to look at the progress through this thread. Hope to see it some day!

Quick update. Got the scales shaped, pinned (pain in the buttocks), and sanded. I also applied the first coat of tung oil just now. All I can say is, "Holy crap!" The brass pins didn't turn out quite as well as I had hoped. He extreme curve around the edges made it extremely difficult to brad nicely by hand. There has got to be a tool for that. Pics shall be posted on the morrow. For now its off to bed!!

subscribed this is looking like a blade i could spend some serious time with can't wait to see the rest!

Overall view. Light wasn't the best. It only has one coat of tung oil, so it will have more flash with more coats.

A little closer on the handle. These pins were extremely difficult to do. I think I might have gone a little above my skills on this one.

I will post some more pics once the polish is finished and everything is totally buttoned up. I'll post some pics of it in action also. Everyone say it, ooohhhhhh, ahhhhhhhhh. :D

very nicely done! and at 1/8" thick, wouldnt be too much to strap to a hunting pack, then you might be able to test the whole, take an arm off on your next deer!

Love the design it really looks like it can do some serious work. NICE! There's a lot than be accomplished with files, just takes a lot of elbow grease and equal portions of determination.

Thanks Joe! I'm really happy with how this has turned out. I'm hoping that it will live up to all my hopes and expectations.

I feel the same way about filework. It's extremely time consuming and difficult, but very rewarding! The thing chops like a champ!! I'm hoping to take some pics of it in action this weekend. My dad will have to do some more polishing to the blade afterwards, but it keeps him busy ;)

Great looking knife! I really like the lines and the finish.
