New Knife Design: recurve tanto, bowie, zombie smasher, knife apocalypse WIP

Thanks Daniel. Its pretty fast in the hand but the weight is a little more forward than I prefer. The fella that commisioned it sure likes it though.

That looks a like a great combonatioan of astetics and functionality. i like the polished bevel on the pitted blade.

Thanks Stick. I have decided that I love this knife. I thought that I would take some pics of it in action. I went out front of my parent's home and had at it with a small sassafras tree. Needless to say, the tree lost.

After a few practice swings. I haven't used a big knife for something like this before.

After I cut it down, I took one solid swing down and split it. I was actually kinda surprised! I also did a penetration test into a phone book. I took video of it but haven't gotten it posted yet. I will probably get that done Monday.

calvin,

too bad you wont still have it when spring gets here and the trees start waking up and getting springy and easy to cut, since you made it for someone else. Ive got a design on a chopper like that and the best Ive done is an almost 4" diameter branch from a poplar or cottonwood {cant remember} in one cut. those big blades are just amazing when you get all the bugs worked out.

are you going to make one for yourself now? will it be different from this one?

Yeah I kinda felt that way too Joe. I won't get a chance to make one for myself anytime soon I fear. I have too many others that i have to get done. When I build mine it will probably get micarta scales. I love the look of burlap. My dad was thoroughly impressed with it. He wants one now too!! Anyways, I thought I would share a little penetration test I did. It's not a car door, but it is a surly and mean spirited phone book. This was the first time I've shot a video like this so I hope it doesnt suck too much.

very nice!

one thing I got to thinking while watching is your lanyard. on my big choppers, the lanyard gets frayed after a year or so, if you did that kind of test, with a frayed lanyard, with that much blade, youd be a one-handed knifemaker from then on. they also usually have some stretch to them to begin with also, and that could be enough to get your pinky finger.

Lol. That would definitely suck! The lanyard was just some bailing twine doubled up for that test only. Shortly thereafter it was discarded. I'm gonna let the owner figure out what he wants to do for a lanyard. ;)

Outstanding! Love the design!

Thanks man. I can't say enough how much it means to me that this knife has been received like it has. I'm hoping to upgrade my equipment soon, so maybe the next one wont take a month!

I figured that the last part of this WIP should be a picture of the new owner with his knife. This is a buddy of mine named Tory. He is the proud owner of a prototype Bone Cutter!!

Dude that knife is awesome-sauce.

:D Thanks Derek! It makes me extremely proud that this knife has received the warm welcome that it has. I put everything that I had into it, so it means a ton to me.
Here are some pics that Tory posted of his favorite new knife. He's extremely proud of it.

If anyone is interested in acquiring a knife similar to the one above or you have any questions regarding it's construction, shoot me an email. I will be happy to answer any of your questions.

For safety's sake the next time you do a penetration test like that "cap" the butt of the knife with your thumb. Should something fail (hopefully) at least you might not go all the way down the blade. Nice looking knife though!

Duly noted Fletch. I kinda realized my stupidity after watching it the first time. I've actually cut myself rather badly that way before. You would think that I would know better...
