New knife finished

Nice work Yuji! That is truly a thing of beauty. What's the intended purpose of your knife?

You moved to a nice city, but I'm sure you'll miss Kyoto and Kyoto-ken. I used to live in the mountains of Hyogo-ken (in the inaka), not too far from you. I really miss that place. Definitely one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

Have you been to Seki-shi or Bizen to watch the knife making and sword making? I spent some time in Bizen learning about sword making (I was only observing), and it was amazing!

Keep up the great work!

Thanks kage.
There's no particularly intended purpose of this knife but maybe wood working and
food preparation will be it's job.

I lived in southern most part of Kyoto pref., was almost Nara ken.
It was a great place. Here's a picture of bird feed table I placed previously.

A sparrow is sleeping on it, as you see. :)

I knew a masters sword smith particularly good at Shiho-zume construction in Seki-shi.
To my regret, he passed away several years ago and had no apprentice.

very nice that will be one to pass down throught your family for years to come thanks for shareing

Great Job, Is that knife for certain cutting tasks? Or do you use it for general all round cutting chores from camp to in the kitchen?

Bryan

It has no particular supposed task, Bryan.

One of the big differences from the previous one is supposed condition to be used.
I changed handle material from wood to micarta to use in wet condition.
Handle got longer and thicker to be used with gloves.

baldtaco-II, so glad you didn't forget my former works.
Although that fighter blade is not very useful for me so far :D

I missed you earlier works, but I do like them very much. If that fighter gets in your way or anything let me know and I'll see what i can do to help solve the problem :D

How do you make the pins for the kydex sheaths? What do you use to make them and how do you peen them over?

Thank you Talfuchre for having interest in my work.
The kydex sheet is 0.08inch thick.
The pins are made from 0.12 inch thick brass wire be cut to the length
slightly longer than the thickness of stacked sheets.
To fix them, just dig holes by drill press, place pins and hit the pins with a hammer.
Hit them so that their head is rounded to dome shape.
For thinner sheets, using thicker and softer pins maybe better.

This is my work-around for ready-to-use fixture which I couldn't find
at the store within my reach.

looks great so far cant wait to see it done

Thanks, pimpnugget and sorry for
the next one does not exist even within my mind.

Thanks mistwalker, I appreciate your kindness for sure :D

All three knives are made of M2 tools steel, smaller two are hardened to
HRc65 and 64.5, the fighter blade is 60 hrc. Only the latest one is
heat-treated by salt pot and others are processed by vacuum chamber.
I'm deeply impressed by salt pot treated steel performance.
It's like a totally different steel!

Hey no problem, what are friends for ;)

Why the high hardness does it give you really good edge retention?

These are fabulous designs! I am a fan of the geometric lines and shapes. Let me know when you start to make them full time!
