I made myself wait a year before looking into flashlights again. I loved it. The technology jump was amazing.

Anyway I decided on a Nitecore D10. Its a small pocket carry light that takes a single AA battery. It uses McLux's piston drive, and has a microcontroller that allows you to select hundreds of light levels. Its simple to use, and that piston drive makes it very reliable. Its got the new Golden Dragon LED and I'm pretty impressed with that also. Nice warm tint, and a handfull of light. Lowest level (9 lumens) is low enough that you can read by it.

The best part is the price!! I got it for 59 bucks shipped! Thats a pretty steep increase in technology over my Fenix P1D that I got last year for the same price!

Congratulations .... I don't own one but read that you should clean and re-lube the piston as soon as possible ..... other than that the light has gotten rave reviews

You mentioned the lowest lumen output, but what is the highest?

Thanks!

Did u get it from fenix store?

Wow. It can use 14500s in addition to alkaline, NiMh, Li, and hybrid batteries.
Think I have to have one:D

There you go. 3 lumens. Its perfect for reading. I've found that to be a real challenge for a flashlight maker to get right.

I'll check into cleaning that piston. Its got grease on it fromt he manufacturer. What do I re-lube it with? What is the reason for this?

There are a couple on CPF Marketplace right now and I'm tempted to buy. Do you find the piston action stiff? Some people have complained about that.

I guess I don't know. Compared to what?? No, the interface works flawlessly for me...

"Note that currently-shipping lights are using an overly viscous lube on this o-ring that is causing the piston to seize or stick for some users, leading to inconsistent switching. This is easily fixed by simply wiping off the excess lube upon receipt (and ideally re-applying a lower viscosity lube). David (4sevens) recommends Deoxit, but I find my radio shack Teflon lube works just as well (the one that comes in their "precision oiler"). Again, as usual, less is more when it comes to lubing."

Above is a quote from a review done on the Nitecore regarding the lube issue.

Hope this helps

oohh.. that looks like an awesome light for $59... i have been carrying a fenix p1d since i got it last x-mas... i love it..

that is alot of lite for that little of a price. Cngrats Andy. I still use an old 2D maglight w/out the LED upgrade. Im so 1980 lol.

Cool! Thanks!

So what makes this better than the L1D? It seems to be nearly the same light, only with the new piston thingy.

I'm supposed to by buying my wife a flashlight that is:
Small enough to fit in the glove box
Bright enough to be useful if her car breaks down
Capable of sitting in a glove box for a long time and still work when she needs it (her last one failed this test. The damn thing didn't work when she pulled it out after sitting for 6 months).

The piston is a big improvement IMO. My Fenix had occasional, but not rare, switch malfunctions. And I'd have to take the battery out and put it back in. I don't expect that with the piston drive. Plus, this is brighter, its more adaptable, and the tint is better on mine. And its the same price. (within 1 dollar). I dunno. I still like Fenix flashlights a lot! I'll be getting more of them. But this a a sweetie too!

I just made a choice between the D10 and a L1D CE. At the end of the day I went with the Fenix due to 4Sevens (Fenix-Store) putting the lifetime warranty on them. I carry mine every day, including at work where it will go from being underground to 110 feet in the air and all kinds of other use and (unintentional) abuse.

I have been happy with the Fenix, but the Nitecore sure does look like a sweet light as well. I've been contemplating picking one up for my wife (no jab intended!) since I want that one as well. At least if it was in the house I would get to use it some too :D

Congrats man, good choice!

Thats a sweet looking light.

I like the fact that you can ue easily obtained batteries. I have a light that uses the CR123's and I have trouble finding batteries.

The only negative I can see is the lack of color choices, I'm not a fan of black anodizing. I think other colors hide scratches/use better...or I'm just to picky.
