New Light!

Very interesting!

Is it a Cree Q5 emitter? And what is the finish on the reflector?

No. But you can get them with Cree Q5's. Mine is a Golden Dragon. Its got a stippled (orange peel) reflector.

Yea, Shore08, you can't go wrong with Fenix. I got this one from 4 sevens store too.

Oh, great! I have been "on the wagon" for amost two years and someone waves this under my nose.:(

Actually, I just gave my Pelican 2390 to an LE friend and sold several Fenix 3W and 1W lights and am in the market for replacements. Sure is some cool stuff out there now. I am trying to replace five lights with two lights and am having a time of it. I was looking at the new Surefire L1 or E1L for one light - for the lower levels (Gen II L1 has me spoiled) but this one may sway me.

It looks like LED light technology is making huge progress with 100+ lumens from an AA cell with long run times. I have several two year old Fenix's with variable output (20 and 22 lumens ).

I personally like LED lights that have a good momentary and a more difficult push for constant ON which is the opposite of the Fenix. I like the cheap Streamlight Micro ($15) which gives 20 lumens, 1 AAA and a very convenient momentary ON. 20 to 40 lumens is plenty to see in the dark without blinding yourself. If you are trying to blind an attacker, then you can't have too much light.

Man. Curse this forum, that light seems awesome! The IPX-8 standard seems to be good. Anyone want to buy me one to replace my Pelican waterproof battery eater?

L!

Doing some comparison of this light with other similar sized lights, it seems to have some great performance.

What's the throw like? Distance? I like the way princeton tec has a visual of the beam. Distance is fairly important to me. Is it a narrow long distance beam, or a wide short beam?

Well, I didn't measure the throw, but the guys at CPF were saying the Jet was the best thrower in this class. Its 80 bucks, still, not a bad price. I think it takes the CR123 batteries though.

I am going to order 2 of these...I need a birthday gift in a week or so. I really like the high to low interface. I'd love to see some beam shots first tho.

Does anyone know what the shipping times are, and if they have them in stock?

Mine came within two days. There are beamshots galore available on CPF. Its a pretty nice beam on mine.

I just ordered a fenix TK10, you guys ever use one?

No, but I have been looking at it too and think I will go with the TK11 in addition to one of these Nitcore's. Now that I have seen the variations of the Nitecore though, I am back on the fence with the TK again. I was shopping for two lights - a pocketable EDC and a "big" light for my gear bag (TK was for the bag) and it looks like there is a Nitecore the size of the Fenix LT2, which takes 2xAA and is 180 Lumens. The TK is rated 225 Lumens but larger and takes 2xCR123As. I like using the CR123s but there is no arguing the point of availabilty of AAs just about anywhere you go. I have to order CR123As online to get a price that makes them justifiable budget-wise ($1/ea.).

While I have practiced a lot of my outdoor/survival skills in the dark, not having one of the newer, small and very efficient LED lights in your kit/on your person seems almost silly. I still practice fire-making in the dark but will not be without a light for "real" emergencies. We've got it pretty good with what is available today because even the $.99 coin-cell lights or the $14 Fenix E01 make it almost inexcusable not to have a light handy for emergencies.

I am looking at the TK10 or 11 for my next light for the same reasons as Jeff stated just above this. The reviews I read about the TK10 and 11 stated that there are better 'tactical' lights out there, but if you aren't looking to use it in a 'tactical' setting regularly (i.e. light in one hand, gun in the other, clearing a house) it is a pretty good light. There are a bunch of reviews out there, ranging from harcore flashaholics to your every day dude. Also, if you check out youtube there is a series of torture tests that people have performed (Freezing the light, boiling, crushing, dropping, etc). Seems like it held up pretty good.

If you order from the fenix store they put a no questions asked lifetime warranty on the fenix lights, so that is something to file in the back of your memory. They ship out of the Atlanta, GA area, and I got mine in Mid. TN in about 2 days as well (I think someone asked that, right?).

Just read thru the CPF threads on this light. Looks like a new D10 will be on its way to me soon!

Quick Q: Will 550 paracord fit the holes in the tail cap?

I don't think it will fit, but you can get a split ring or lobster claw that will fit the holes and accept the paracord (IIRC).

Very cool Andy. I like thier lights alot.

I recently scored a Surefire E2L off the exchange w/10 free batterys for CHEAP.:D

Im all set on lights for awhile but when the need arrises, I will grab one of those:cool:

Maybe. The hole is a tad over 3mm dia. There are 4 of them.
