New listings on The Knife Connection

In one of his more earnest and sincere moments unfortunately yes!

No silly Wasps didn't exist back then. Geesh!

With that logic though, assuming the pic is from the walmart episode, that's season 8, which means it aired back in 2004. From what I read, Andy didn't start FB untill 2007. Perhaps it was a FB prototype Cartman stole from Andy's garage. He'd totally do that... ;)

I guess we can officially declare that the can of worms is now open.

Yeah. I was going to bite my tongue on this, but they have a knife I really like up there... Problem is that their "list" price is almost $300?!?! over the actual cost of of the knife itself... Even at their "sale" price (with a generic ~$30 sheath) they're still about $100 overprice... Its a shame.

Now granted this is 100% their perogitive as an independent business to price as they wish, but I would never in a million years buy a knife at dealer cost , tack on $200+ and a generic sheath and honestly expect someone else to buy it without geting called out on it first...heck, at some of their advertised prices you're almost to a second fiddleback  (ex. price $562 sale $392... We're not talking about a camp knife here folks)

Nonetheless, it's a real bummer as they got some really nice knives in!

Hello xxwjtxx,

Please allow me to address some things in your post. I will say right from the start, this post is in no way intended to criticize you or anyone else or try to cause any contention but rather to state the facts. We all have our way of looking at things and are free to express our thoughts in regards to how we view things.

1. "Even at their "sale" price (with a generic ~$30 sheath) they're still about $100 overprice." Please call me or send me an email letting me know what knife you are referring to so I can check it out as there could be a mistake.

2. The List Price/Regular Price, as we know, is always higher than the merchants selling price. It is very common in the knife business as well as a lot of other markets. It really means nothing as it could be a million dollars or one penny. The bottom line is what the customer actually pays for the item. Most online shopping carts have the "Regular Price/MSRP/List Price" and the "Discounted Price/Sale Price" etc. built right into the system so something has to be entered. I am always open to suggestions so you are welcome (feedback from anyone else is welcome as well) to let me know your thoughts on figuring the "Regular Price/MSRP/List Price". Please send suggestions/comments through the "Contact Us" section on our website and I WILL review it.

3. Our selling price is figured very simply... We pay Fiddleback Forge a certain amount for their knives and add a consistent markup after adding the cost of the sheath. I have checked other dealers who carry Fiddleback Forge knives and we are right in line with everyone else. We do not "tack on $200+ and a generic sheath". The profit margin in the example that you quoted in your post is a long ways from $200. We also figure less profit margin for the sheath than when we sell the sheaths by themselves since it is being included with the knife. I will also add that the USA made sheaths are very good quality and individually fitted to each knife. We don't just grab any sheath and put it in the box. This takes extra time and effort but I do not want ANY dissatisfied customers. We have been getting very good comments from customers about the sheaths that we include with the Fiddleback Forge knives. Fiddleback Forge knives are great knives and deserve nice sheaths. By the way, if you do not want a sheath with the knife, we will reduce the price.

As always, any comments or concerns can be sent to me through the "Contact Us" section of our website.

Thank You!

Kindest Regards,

I was really surprised to see the scandi one in there! I have a feeling those are going to be a 'in demand' knife since the only ones available are already out there. It's gonna be a rare item for sure.

I for one am very grateful to a member here that let me talk him into parting with his scandi Terrasuar. I'm NOT giving that one up. :)

She is in good hands for sure. I enjoy seeing your photos of her cutting it up! :) For clarity, I'm speaking of schmittie's Terrasaur. She is a beauty.

I can honestly say that Dale is one of the best in the business at customer service. I have order many products from him, he has scary fast shipping, and will go out of his way to make sure the customer is taken care of.

I also was fortunate enough to obtain a Scandi Terrasaur from a member that felt that his hands were too small for the handle. I have read the criticisms of the Scandi grind on some of the Fiddleback models such as tall blade designes like the Bushfinger. But I have to say that in my opinion, the Terrasaur has almost a perfect blade shape for a Scandi grind. I am well pleased with my example. I am almost afraid to use it now due to the apparent scarcity of these knives going forward. But it sure does have a very keen cutting edge. I am aching to put it to work.

Hey guys, I'm not trying to start a flame war here or trying to tell folks how to run their businesses. A lot of folks here swear by TKC, and in no way was my post a personal statement against any person(s) involved in their business, however, so it doesn't seem that I am arbitrarily bad mouthing folks here (we're all friends with FBF being a common bond), my response was based around the following example:

1. TKC: Bocote Nessmuk, 1/8 SFT (with sheath): New $562, Sale: $392.95.
2. Fiddleback Friday: 2013 1115 018 – Nessmuk, Bocote over natural canvas with a white g10 pinstripe, SFT Tang, Convex on 1/8” thick 3D Spalted 01 steel - $255

This knife costs $255. Even if the sheath was $55 (reasonable cost for a custom made RLO or HJE), we're at $310.00 for this combo with a custom sheathe. I'm sorry if I had offended anyone's sensibilities, but if anyone were to review the thread, I'm not the only one here who was a bit concerned. I've been collecting knives 25+ years and have dealt with all sorts of dealers -- I understand that the knife industry is a cut throat (no pun intended) business, but it is driven by folks like us, who spend our hard earned cash on items of luxury not necessity. I'm all for everyone making out in the equation but at times, all parties need to be reasonable. I've said my piece and will not hijack this thread any longer -- if need be (or I want the knife bad enough), I'll contact TKC direct.

V/R,

WJT

When Andy sells a bushfinger with glow in the dark scales for $315 and I see it at TKC for $404.95, that seems a little high. Especially since Andy's was in CPM154 and TKC's is in 01. TKC's does come with a good sheath, but it seems a little on the high side. We (the sharks) would be buying a 01 GITD bushfinger from Andy for $290 minus the sheath, I'm sure TKC gets a dealer discount on blades as well as sheaths and still the price is high. Even if we bought it from Andy (at full price) and purchased TKC's most expensive dangler sheath (around $50) we would still be paying much less than TKC has it listed for.

I just went back through Andy's march listings for bushraptor prices. The one I bought Saturday from TKC was in line with Andy's LOWEST price. And it was in burlap, so I'm stoked. The other bushraptor listed is at an even lower price.
