New locking SAKs coming?

The loose and flimsy clip doesn't bother me at all, however I can see how it [can] be a problem for others. You can still toss the synergy into the pocket for those who want to dump-pocket-carry
Maybe the clip was victorinox's attempt of a modern flare, however the real problem is the clip adds another "tool layer" and because its not a really good clip it makes it unnecessarily thick, if you want to just pocket dump. All in all its essentially a locking companion model with a clip

Screw mounted and ability to carry right handed or left handed tip up tip down lol!
Auto or thumb stud? Bigger Lol!!
Also removable if you like the design and would rather just drop it into your pocket?

Yup and best have a wave opener option also ! :p

I was thinking/pondering a possible scenario.
Victorinox changes the clip to a removable replaceable and this first edition becomes an instant collectible? Could have been their plan all along?

Should i start a new thread?
Why can’t Victorinox use screws instead of pins so you could easily change tools or add layers?
Cleaning could be very detailed or standard cleaned your choice. Changing scales would be a breeze too.
That would have been a better new product line in my view.
Using torqx screws and a guide on torque settings with use of blue loctite or heck victorinox special “Vicktite”? Lol!
Imagine all the YouTube videos that would spawn.

Have you ever modded a SAK and tried to reassemble one? My experience is that it’s no joke and not easily done without a jig and hearty swearing. Even the 58mm’s can be a bear, and the 93 mm are downright brutal past one or two layers. So, there is no “easily,” unfortunately. I just don’t think slip joints and screws make a lot of sense, personally.

91mm is where it would maybe make the most sense, but even there it’s not like Lego. Almost none of the layer tools are swappable without mods and most of the backsprings for each layer are unique. If a person was ambitious, but not knowledgeable of the differences, they’d easily get themselves a confused pile of parts.

IMO, screwed construction would provide almost no benefit to their core audience and only serve to increase “warranty” claims by a huge amount.

Well mine is still on order since October. I will have to wait . I have carried my little money clip knife for 25 years . The springs they use in mine are super strong.
I don't believe they will bend at all . I have carried a lot of cash over the years.with it stretched wayout. I trust their their engineering alot . The scissor springs are rarely broken. And it is a very small thickness. Expensive yea but I am happy to see then try a different approach. I ordered the x model and plan on giving it a workout . It could work it's way into my one woods walking knife . Time will tell

That’s why i asked. I for one have little knowledge in these things. Thanks for the knowledge.

Hopefully I didn’t come across the wrong way. Rereading, I realize that my initial reply may have come off as a sarcastic “don’t you know,” but that’s not how I intended. It’s always possible I’m doing it wrong and there’s an easy way to put SAKs together. Just from my experience, I can see why Vic may want to avoid the screwed together route.

Victorinox is still pretty much "every man's" knife company. It's just simply easier to pin them and the knives will be much more reliable that way. If people start taking them apart they would be flooded by jackasses who can't put them back together.

G gustophersmob no not taken that way. Could have I suppose but i always see good not bad especially vin reading text. My wife is the opposite. She gets a text response and seems to put her own inflection in it. It is never good for the texter.
I always coach her and say it with a kinder inflection saying maybe they are saying it this way?

Any idea if they are going to have more of these Synergy knives they sold out of? Is it possible they will/are redesign them with a better stronger removable clip and part of the reason they are out of stock atm?

Thinking about this further, it seems obvious to me that they mounted the clip on the main-blade pivot end because the dumb scale cutouts are on the other end, hence less room for a clip there. And they couldn’t put the cutouts on the other end because they would probably weaken the knife at the point of greatest stress — where the main blade pivots.

So, in short, all this was based purely on esthetic concerns because someone decided those cutouts were a good idea. It disappoints me that Victorinox put an esthetic issue ahead of functionality.

Now that these have been out for awhile, has anyone taken one apart? it seems so me it might be possible to take the liner lock out of these new models and install them in the old Alox series.
