New locking SAKs coming?

The VW bug went away because NOBODY wanted an under powered vehicle with no heat.

That and, it couldn’t meet the ever more demanding safety requirements in this country.

Useless trivia time!

It was produced and sold in Mexico until 2003. Much later than most people think.

As for their reputation, they’re the #2 carmaker in the world today and #1 in assets. There are 12 brands under the VW moniker including Navistar/International here in the US. The school bus that picks the kids up in your neighborhood, is a VW. 😁

The dislike for (and general ignorance of) Volkswagen reminded me of an acquaintance at work. "I'd NEVER drive a Volkswagen product!" Alright, noted. But then we were discussing cars at a later point and he was going on and on about the Lamborghini Huracan and I buckled up, cracked my knuckles, and started with "But, but you said you'd neeeeeever drive a Volkswagen product!!!" with the biggest grin on my face.

He was unamused. And after he Googled it, he was even more so.

🤣 🤣 🤣

Oh be Quiet Quiet 😁

I am reminded of some saying they do not want to buy a Chinese owned/made car brand, whilst driving a Volvo.
Or, thinking that Land Rover is British owned and only made in the UK...

The synergy I ordered just arrived. Its well put together and seems made of quality materials. What i noticed pretty muxh straight away is that the knife blade has the same strong pull typical of a swiss army alox knife. I was hoping it would do that the other locking saks do and sort of stop at a half way point then complete the opening and lock into place. This means when you disengage the lock you have to be careful cause it closes like any other sak alox, like a guillotine. So basically its both a slipjoint and liner lock as it operates as both. Still a good knife, still has the same front and back (up and down, forward backward) play the others do

I have my Synergy X in hand, just arrived. I have to say, these are NOT just another ALOX SAK, these have a sort of brushed finish, and it's gorgeous, especially in the Red that I received. But hey, words are good, but pics are worth....well, you know:

It bears mentioning that the pocket clip is entirely unobtrusive, and comfortable when gripping the knife:

A couple of the tools (it also has scissors and the package opener as well) :

It fits the hand well.

A beautiful knife, and I'm glad to own it.

The one i picked up is in silver or uncolored, mainly because I love [need] the look of worn in or worn out handles made in materials that arent colored so as they age and are used over time they have that old timey look. If there was any confusion over my comparison to an alox I was referring to the back spring strength mainly. It is a very handsome knife indeed and I hope victorinox expands their locking line

Hey mate do you think it would be ok for dusty outback Australia? I do like the look of it. I probably won't get to handle one in a shop for months.

If the slipjoint Swiss army knife has been taken all over the world including dusty areas i would guess it would be fine. I know you didn't ask me. Just rinse and shake it out, canned air wouldn't hurt too

I was just wondering if the cut outs would be an issue? I guess time will tell.

My guess is it depends if you are glass half full or half empty ;) If you are worried about getting stuff in the knife, it will. If you think stuff will fall out of the knife, it will ;)

I would say that I think dust gets in everywhere and having the availability to clean out the knife is not a bad thing. I get way more irritated with the crud and rust spots I can't reach in a traditional carbon slip joint back spring than I do with knives I can blow out/somewhat polish. While this one won't rust, it is is nice to be able to clean it a bit easier since it has a pinned construction.

I would guess this would be one of the easiest SAKs to get dirty and one of the fastest to clean up.

Very nice! I've been holding out on getting one until seeing in hand here from a member. Are you a lefty? What do you think of the lock and releasing it from the left side as opposed to from the right?

I am not a southpaw, but I have had no issues with the lock, because it's pretty much exactly like some of their other linerlocks I've had. Also, this one is made well, so no lockstick that would make it "fiddley" or difficult to disengage. Is it ideal for a right-handed person? No, not really, because it more or less makes this knife a two-handed closer, so I leave it to everyone's personal judgement as to whether that will work for them.

For me, it's just nice having a SAK with a few tools clipped neatly to my pocket and able to be accessed instantly, instead of playing pocket pool like I have with all of my other SAKs I tend to carry. For me, the design solves a problem.

Dan, hey my friend, I honestly believe you'll be fine. As Jake stated, this thing will be SUPER easy to keep clean, given that the slots are wide enough to accept the little red "straw" that a can of compressed air comes with (I checked LOL)!! So, cleaning up this pivot area will be a literal breeze.

Having carried and fiddled around with this model further over last evening and this morning, a couple of additional notes.

1. It's very cool that they have maintained the standard SAK consistency in closing and opening the tools. They feel the exact same as on other ALOX SAKs that I own. That's pretty neat.
2. I actually like the slots in the scales because you can see the inner workings of the tools on that pivot and that's pretty neat to me.

The only two gripes I have, or that I think others might have:

1. These slots are a nice design element. I like them, however I am able to see immediately if you drop this knife, those outer little "channels" of aluminum are going to bend immediately, and you most likely aren't going to be able to bend it back out. So, I could see someone who has a history of dropping their knife not wanting one of these. I would understand that completely.

2. I am glad it has a pocket clip, but don't love that it's riveted in. It's fine....until it isn't. Now, that said, I am used to being careful not to screw up pocket clips on my knives, so I'LL be fine....but again, if you find yourself bending pocket clips regularly, you're not going to want to buy one of these.

So yeah, there it is, more or less, my review of this knife.

Thanks mate, i value your opinion. I will buy one and give it a go.
Dan.
