A Starmate with S30V would be great. As far as handle material, titanium would be fantastic.Looking forward to any version that comes out though. :D

IMHO, open back = cheap, hurried, lazy, and above all shows a lack of craftsmanship, of course that just one mans opinion.

I think I have the perfect name for the Spyderco Microstar - the 'Starlite'! Why the Starlite? Because:-

(1) "lite" talks about being scaled down & reduced in some dimension or another - in this case the size

(2) "starlite" also can mean "starlight" - cue the song "starlight, star bright, the star I see tonight, star light, starbright..." :D

S30V, Micarta (black, white?) or sculpted (ie not flat slab) G10, Medallion. Too bad Axis lock is proprietary. Any lock that works is ok with me. Comression lock would probably be best for this knife.

Easiest would be a VG-10 lockback in Seki. Thoughts?
Sounds good- G-10 or Micarta handles would be nice

This time around with the Startmate, I'd like to see a fully serrated version available. Carbon fiber scales sound good too. Thanks much for bringing back this classic.

Bob,

what are your thoughts on the 4 way clip arrangement that we have on the "Stretch", Keating "Chinook" and "Manix"?

Some complain that there are too many unfilled holes, some like the concept.

Also, what are your opinions on the "open back", vs "Partial back spacer" (Military) or full back spacer?

Hey Brownshoe, Sorry to hear of your frustration with the earlier Starmate. I think we've improved our linerlock considerbly since then.

If we use a linerlock, do you prefer the full open access like the Military or the minimal access, supposedly safer, but more difficult to unlock?

For Spyderco's version of the Microstar, I'd call it Nanostar.

As far as bringing back the Starmate: S30V with carbon fiber scales.

In both cases, make the knives tip-up, just like your custom knives.

Totalmente de acuerdo!
Absolutely agree! (For the Spanish challenged)

Silver G10 or Titanium scales would be welcomed also.
Tan G10 for the deployed troops would be cool!

Sal, I hope you're taking notes, these guys really get this stuff. I really like some of the names for the small version. Starlite is exceptional. BOB

I personally like minimal access to the liner lock, though many don't. (Looks nicer and harder to unlock)
Mr Terzuola and Mr Glesser, is Compression lock possible?
Also, will there be the dragon seal of Terzuola on it?

I would love to see a CF Starmate in S30V in tip up.G10 would be great too.
Please keep it an open back.It is very hard to improve the basic design of this one.
Now for names of a smaller Starmate
Corona
Pulsar
Nutron Star
Star dust
Cosmic Ray
Solar Storm
Starmate Flare
I like the first 3 best.

Easiest would be a VG-10 lockback in Seki. Thoughts?

Oh yes please, from the same maker as the Persian. Stainless bolsters with sand blasted micarta or G10 scales. Sand blast the bolsters and clip too, for the ultimate "gentleman's" small tactical folder :) .

Thanks, Bob - well, at the very least, if it is named "Starlite", Sal will definitely have one customer in Malaysia in me buying it! :D

I think Spyderco must be the only knife company still in business that actively cares about what its customers think about names for the knifes, etc. Yet another reason why they are the best...

I'd be interested. G10 handles, if anything else, just make it Ti bolsters. As for the lock, looks like the only thing we're getting is liner, but I'd prefer a compression lock. If a liner it is (which I've never had issues with, aside from... adjusting the pivot on my Lum) then maybe a bit less access than the Milie. Maybe like the Lum. I really liked the adjustable pivot on my Lum and Milie, somewhat sad to see that go.

S30V, for sure. I'd rather have the back spacers filled, I think it makes fore a more complete knife. As for clip placement, I'm with the Manix idea, drill and tap 4 places. Because it adds that much more versitility to 'em. Keep the over all look, etching etc.

I'm also for keeping the price down around 100ish(street price).

That's about all the damage I can think of, sounds like a winer!

Great discusion!

Handles in CF, I am not to big on sandpager grade G10 and nor are my trousers. Open is fine.

The little one, pleases no lockback! Bob T. makes linerlocks. Spyderco's makes some of the best linerlocks in the buisiness. A lockback would spoil it imho.

Keep up the good work.

JD

Keep it in Golden with S30V,please add ridges to the top of the liner lock.
