New MIM clip now available from CRK

After almost losing my 31 the other day due to the factory clip being too loose and it slipping out of my pocket, I ordered one of these to give it a try. Hopefully this will work better. The Glassblasted CRK's seem to slip out of the pocket easier than the original blast.
Honestly, I don’t know that the level of retention is any better with the MIM clip. I have read that Lynch clips have strong retention if that’s what you’re going for.

Well that's unfortunate. I do agree that the standard clip isn't the most comfortable. I'll look into Lynch's work. When I first saw aftermarket clips they didn't fit the aesthetic well to me. Maybe that's changed.

The retention is about the same as received from CRK. That said, I gave the MIM clip a slight bend for tighter retention and the retention ended up being perfect for me and is holding the adjustment well. For me it's an improvement over the stock clip.

Just to give some context... I'm usually in jeans or my work pants. The leg cargo pocket of my work pants or my jeans pocket are perfect thickness for the stock clip, but the side pocket of my work pants, which I sometimes carry my knife in, is thinner. I like the MIM clip because, with a slight adjustment, it is secure in both the thinner and thicker pockets. I couldn't get the stock clip to work well for both.

Slightly off topic, but I could not find the thread.. My question is when did "Flat" clips start, and when did CRK go to the more recent "bent" clips. What is the newest knife anyone has with a factory "Flat" Clip? Thanks all, Bart

How does the new clip work with thicker jeans? I currently have the RGT clip on my zaan and the ergos are great but it absolutely will not fit down all the way in the pocket which is super annoying.

In my opinion, not QUITE as easy as stock, but not bad at all. I have adjusted the tension of my MIM clip slightly as shown earlier in this thread. Depending on the fit of the jeans sometimes I have to lift the tip of the clip with my pointer finger but it's not a major annoyance.

Just getting around to trying this clip and I must say it is an improvement for the ergonomics and pocket retention for my Zaan. I used to want them to angle the clip on the Zaan like the Inkosi and 31. This clip completely removes that desire.

Did you find the stock clip gave you a hotspot on the Umnumzaan when using it? I love the Umnumzaan but the stock clip, for my hand, always gave me a nasty hotspot when using it for some time while cutting. It came to the point that I went clipless but I dont' like having to keep the knife in a leather sheath in my pocket and ended up selling the Zaan. Now that I have one back on the way, I was going to seek an aftermarket clip to solve the hotspot issue.

Yes the original clip would put a bit of pressure on my palm in certain grips. Nothing crazy but it was a bit uncomfortable. The mim clip eliminates that issue.

I just received a sand-blasted MIM clip for my 2009 Umnumzaan today. This is a 2009 S30VN unit with no LBS or Idaho Made markings.

It took three tries to carefully bend the clip to where it stands about 1mm proud of the lock bar when the blade is deployed, allowing for an easy disengagement of the lock bar (which was not an issue at all with the standard clip, anyway) but that just barely touches the lock bar when the blade is secured, giving me the best of both worlds.

It looks better on this particular knife, IMO, as it has an industrial look about it anyway with the old pivots.

This really is the icing on the cake for this knife, and it is now arguably my favorite of the 85 mainly high-end production knives in my collection, including six other CRKs.

I highly recommend these clips if one feels it will spiff up a CRK you own, and I'm getting one for one of my 25 Micartas in at the mothership now getting new washers while it is there. The rest will retain the stock clips as I do not feel there is anything wrong with them, I just like the looks of this one on this knife.

I was very surprised one could even bend a MIM part, but do it carefully and it will take it with no issues. Just obviously do not do it more than absolutely necessary, carefully of course, and you'll be fine.

My beloved Large Inkosi will have to go back to the mothership for repair thanks to me admittedly ham handing the fit of a MIM clip. I am NOT liking that a MIM product requires me to have to remove material for fitting. And I tried a sand and glass version. So I thought I had removed enough and it was just the usual tight fit. I usually get it where I have it most of the way in and then use the screw to tighten it all the way down. In hind sight this is an obvious bad idea as steel is of course harder than titanium. I'll probably have to eat the cost of a new slab. Should I really blame the MIM clip when I knew it didn't fit? No. That was me. But should a MIM product fit and should I expect a CRK product to fit a CRK knife? YES. (sad face)

Wait, did you remove material from the clip, or the handle? I'm not sure I follow what happened here.

CRK's MIM clip is titanium, just FYI. Maybe you got a bad one if it didn't fit the pocket?
I had a sand blasted one. It was tight to fit at first. But after taking it off a couple times to change the tension it fit easier as the edges of the clip had smoothed.
