Anyone hear anything on when these are coming out? I thought it was supposed to be last fall, but I haven't seen any yet on any sites... ?

Sal promised one a good while back and it finally showed up at the Spyderco Amsterdam 2007 meet. There sure were a bunch of Spydercos there that are nice! It's the "Micro Dyad" and I've been waiting for this for a LONG time!

I don't know when it will be released stateside but this will be my "ultimate" pocket knife. I've had a micarta scaled full size for years and love it.

Any ball park idea on release date Sal?

Pics courtesy of Wouter, (Mr. Blonde) and thank you!

This is one I'll definitely be looking forward to. I wasn't hanging around these forums back in the day of the dyads and I hate I missed them. If this one comes out, I'll not miss it!

The ability to carry both a PE and SE in one knife is very appealing to me.

Great looking knife.
:)

I agree plowboy and with the jigged bone and the small size, this is a fabulous little knife! I will definitely be getting one. Come on Sal ol' friend, throw us some bones here! :)

I have 3 of the FRN versions (in case I lose any!); one rides EDC with me to work every day. Small enough not to get anyone bent out of shape, but ballsy enough to do almost anything I'd need it to do. Now if only I could carry one with wood-like scales ;)

Sorry.

Every time I throw a bone, it has a rubber band on it, and snaps back to kick me in the bass.

The delivery date has been pushed back 3 times, to our discomfort as well.

It is a very difficult model to make, and the quantity is small. I'm guessing that when production is behind, the micro gets bumped.

It seems that I am always slow at my commitments. Perhaps some of you have already figured that out :p

But I am persistent and tenacious and will eventually come through. It is a beautiful and unusual piece. The plan is to do 1200 per year with a different handle material each year.

Your kind understanding and patience is appreciated.

How big will these be? Smaller than the mini-Dyad I presume, but what's the closed length on it?

Wow they still haven't come out? I was going to prepay/preorder one from one of the online knife dealers many eons (months actually) ago, but eventually decided not to. As cool as the jigged bone is i'd prefer synthetic/micarta etc for the slightly lower price so i could afford multiples. I once had a mini dyad, it was my alltime favorite Spydie but i lost it in my last house move. If and when the new ones come out i want at least two!
I was always curious why it was discontinued in the first place....

Hey Tholiver,

I would never suggest pre-paying....for the very reason of delay.

They were disco'd due to a drop in sales, which in our opinion was caused by
"inexpensive" knock-offs.

Hi Grapevine,

I'll measure the proto Monday.

For those that like muiltiple blades, I will say that we are playing with new designs.

O.k thanks for the answer! :)
Hmmm i don't understand why people buy knock-offs, i prefer quality over quantity. I have yet to see a knockoff that even approaches the quality of Spyderco, or Victorinox, or Buck etc etc. And as far as that goes if money is really tight and you need a really good but really inexpensive knife there are moras, opinels, douk douks etc etc. Better to buy an inexpensive original design knife than a cheap knockoff of a more expensive high quality knife.

Methinks people who buy knockoffs are not really "knife-people"in the first place. My sister is like that with tools. Every Christmas she gives me and my brother-in-law at least one of those junky chinese minitool sets sold in walmart. Generally she would never give tools as a gift as that would mean having to set foot in the hardware section lol! But they put that junk in the little bins near the checkout so while shes waiting in line she grabs one, voila christmas shopping partially done.
:grumpy:

I think that generally the purchasers of knockoffs are usually impulse buyers who would have never bought a good quality knife in the first place. Its like real music fans versus (illegal) downloaders. Most real music fans buy their music and are fans of certain musicians and music styles. A lot of downloaders aren't real music fans and would never have bought music in the first place, its just background noise to them, something to fill up their ipod.

Well, a rubber bone is better than no bone at all Sal! Thanks. Yes please measure the proto for us when you can.

I also really like synthetics as long as they're quality synthetics such as Micarta. This is a classy little guy and would be fabulous in the jigged bone shown or sambar stag, (YEAH! :) ), and abalone or paua shell.

I don't stay totally in the loop, but that's the first I've heard of 1200 pieces per year varying the handle material annually. That sounds great to me.

I'm also happy to hear that other models with multiple blades are being investigated. I hope some have 3" or less blades.

I really like the looks of the mini.
:)

I love this as well. And I want them. :)

I hope that at least one of them will be 3.5" with G10 or micarta and couple of 3" blades with G10.

Lord have mercy, if there's a dyad some day with mother-of-pearl handles... don't know what I'll do

:)

I love the design. Sal, maybe you'd consider doing more double blades, say a Delica with both a PE and a fully SE edge. that would be nice.
