Ok you knife nuts. Lets see how this will go over.
Would anyone like to see Sal and Sal alone design a neck knife that is small
enough to carry ether around the neck or clip to a pocket. That is made out of some type of steel that the user would not have to sharpen alot. This knife would have to cut big and open a bottle of beer or soda. This blade would have to be comfortable to the hand also. I would like to see such a blade on the market by Spyderco. Would you?

They already made an awesome neck knife that does everything you mentioned except open bottles. It was called the Swick. I thought for sure it would become a regular production item.

been there, done that ;)

Well, That's just it. There isn't one in production. And the knife on the bottom. Most were made of AUS 6. Which is alright if you don't cut anything with it.

Spots came in vg-10 as well. As I stated, I really don't understand why the Swick didn't sell to Spyderco's expectations, resulting in a regular production model. Those that do have it know it is one of the finest neck knives available.

I haven't had a Swick, but have both SPOTs (AUS 6 & VG-10) & both make great neck knives. It is too bad they're still not made & I'm not why not.

Now what about the Perrin Street Beat?

I carry that as a neck knife probably 5 days out of seven. Good size, great ergos...won't open a beer bottle, but I trust it implicitly as a SD/MBC to cut big.

Hi S.C.,

We're thinking of another Swick run. Haven't worked out details.

That is amazing news! It is the only knife I have in triplicate. Unfortunately, those backups might not be as collectable, but I'm quite excited to see some new Swicks.

I missed the Swick boat the first time around. I'd love another chance at one. Would H1 be a practical steel for this? I always kind of thought it would make a good knife for running, and H1 definitely excels in that application.

If Spyderco made another run of them, I would give it a try. H-1 sounds pretty good. I've heard nothing but good about that steel. Did the Swick cut well?

I got into small fixed blades particularly neck knives quite a while after the Swick so I am thrilled to see it come back. One thing that really makes or breaks a neck knife is the sheath. It is hard to do a good sheath on a budget so maybe on some knives you
should not sell it with a sheath? Then you could sell a really first rate sheath separately
and the people who want to pay for a good one get one and the people who don't are not stuck with a crappy one.

It must be had for a company that does mostly folders to make a good sheath. It is kind of like putting a really good edge on a knife ,it takes some hand finishing by someone who really knows what they are doing.

I wonder if Spyderco took a load of good quality kydex and a guy who really knows how to make nice sheath to Taiwan whether you could set up a factory?

A Mule with a good sheath(I am sending mine out tomorow) and a bottle opener ground in the rear end like the CRKT Dogfish would be cool.

Granted, I don't own many fixed blad/neck knives (off the top of my head: 8 or so) but I feel the Swick sheath is great.

I agree, H1 would be a good steel for the swick.

Well since my memory tells me Sal felt the stonewash finish looks unfinished, I wonder if the new set will have a different finish, when they are finished.

Once I found out about the Swick I also found out is was discontinued- I would love the chance for a angled Wharncliffe necker to feed my addiction.

Why Taiwan? Eric of On/Scene Tactical is right next door in Canada and I can tell you from the ones I own he can make excellent small-knife sheaths.

I'd like to see a different finish on the swick...am not so crazy about the stonewash, it reminds me of the look of steel ductwork...however, there are many who would disagree w/me, I'm sure...:D

The swick is a good wee knife but I would like to see a hawk bill or Persian versian personaly. The blade on the swick i have now is fine but I think a curve either way would help it allong for sure
