new Outdoor Opinel

I think I'll stick with the traditional models unless they 1) lose the eagle claw hole 2) release in plain edge and 3) make them not so traditonal tactical cross over.

Yeah, i'm not diggin the hole thingy either or the serrations. The handle looks pretty nice though. Give me a plain edge, Carbon steel, holeless version and i would be all over it.

yup, the shape of that hole and the serrations both remind me of cheapo junky knives. I doubt one hand opening is really practical on a knife that requires two hands to lock anyway.

I could definitely dig a plain edge blade. The subtle convex grind with the polymer handles would make a great little camp knife for most people.

I kinda want to get one, grind the serrations and just have a recurve blade...hmmm...I wonder if it would be worth it.

that was my first thought, until i looked at what i really needed in the pack or on the bike in my saltwater area... then the new model looked pretty good!

I lock and unlock my No.8 one handed all the time. And open it one-handed. Seems a lot of folks don't know how--is a video in order?

Some Opinels are a little stiff but all of mine have been pretty easy to lock open and closed one-handed, including my # 10.

If you watch the promotional vid, the hole does not seem to be intended for opening the knife. Rather for that shackle thingy (please excuse the gratuitous use of technical terms).

Where's the built in LED light, signal mirror, fire steel, and compartment for survival gear ?

Wonder if these will be low bid contract out and "Made in China" ?

Guess I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Opinels.

I was glad to see a better internet north american distribution of colored Opinel handles, but I'm still hoping they start selling a yellow handled one. The original design is better than this new one afaik.

Need it in yellow.

Must have plain edge.

Need a couple more sizes.

That said, if they hit a reasonable price point AND do a plain edge, I have several boxes, bags, glove boxes, and consoles that need to have one.

Not having to fret about getting the wood wet would open doors in my use of that knife. I already like the way an Opinel behaves in the kitchen, just not the washing up part of that exercise.

Waterproof handle? Bring it.

And, in case I forgot to emphasize it, IN A PLAIN EDGE.

yeah. locking, unlocking, and closing with one hand is very easy on an Opinel. Not sure how anyone could even remotely have a problem with it. I could see opening being tough on some that aren't as smooth. But my opinels after a bit of use (no oiling of the pivot or anything) all fall open as soon as they are unlocked, so can be used one handed quite easily, which I did at work for quite some time....

that said, these are pretty cool, and make me happy as someone who loves Opinel. But they don't interest me in the slightest, as they don't really solve a problem I have with Opinel's current lineup(since I have no problems with them :p ) and lose some of their charm in the process.

On principle I do not buy knives with integrated whistles in the handle.
It just seems kinda wrong. I lime the idea, but opinel needs to rethink their "features"

I think it's commendable that Opinel is thinking outside their traditional niche. I imagine there is considerable risk involved, at least in terms of customers who will feel aghast that a company would dare to consider thinking outside their traditional niche :D

At least Mora sort of paved the way for them. Opinel is so often called the folding Mora that a polymer-handled one seems an extension of that concept.

Looks great for its intended purpose/audience.

I'm not really a fan of Opinel's, prefer my Cognet Douk-Douk, but I think I'll grab one of the orange ones to use at work etc.
I find serrations are quite handy....be good for cutting into my baguette too ;)

As for the whistle! Why the hell not. Its making use of the space. Sure it may be a dirt trap, but it'll clean easy and its incoporated quite subtly.

Good work Opinel!

ps. As for one handed opening....
