New owners of Schrade

After reading all of the positive posts here I picked up a two-pack at Walmart, a trapper and a small single blade. Both knives are well-made. I have been carrying the trapper quite a bit. I had given up on the brand, but I have changed my mind. Definitely worth the money.

Go ahead and enjoy them. To each his own.
But, remember what a wise man once said:
My dollars will continue to support the American worker.

You told me you were going to stay out of this thread.

In Traditional, we talk about the KNIVES, NOT where they are made. If you cannot stay out of these threads, you are going to start garnishing infractions. Last warning.

This is a long-standing rule that predates Gary and I moderating the forum.

Traditional Forum Guidelines thread:

Political, Economic & Religious Commentary; Offshore Manufacturers & Brands:
This forum is not the venue for diatribes on economics, political policies, customs or the governments (and entities) of foreign countries which are the home to various knife manufacturers.
We are a large international community and we want our "virtual living room" to be a comfortable and rewarding place for all to visit and participate in without feeling singled out or harrassed.
Bladeforums has "Political", "Feedback" and "Current Events" sub-forums available for those discussions and any such threads will be closed or moved to the appropriate venue.

We understand that many knives and brands/marks that were once produced here in the USA are now produced overseas, whether that offshore manufacture resides in Europe, South America or Asia.
Be that as it may, the Traditional Forum exists to discuss the knives (pro and con) as opposed to hosting rants about overseas manufacture in general or specific countries in particular.
We feel it is safe to say that we all want to see the U.S. cutlery industry thrive. If for some reason you cannot countenance purchasing knives manufactured overseas then by all means "vote" with your dollars but do not use the forum for promoting any particular agenda.

Regardless of country of origin, the knives I reviewed (without reference to country of origin) are very good, well made, well finished knives. They are not coming - they are here. People are buying them by the boatload. All of the knives reviewed have stainless steel blades. If the manufactures of the knives I reviewed can use stainless steel, why can't GEC?

I have no plans to buy anymore of the knives/brands I reviewed. I was just following through on a promise I had made to sitflyer sitflyer and @black mamba to give these knives an honest look see.

What's to fault with well executed ringed, fluted, crowned, slanted, bolsters and well finished with very good fit and covers that are evenly matched and evenly dyed along with flush, well set, spun, pins? No unsightly sunken pins.

That makes sense and I think a good rule, but why is it ok to put blatantly religious and patriotic (read: political) comments in posters' signature lines? Looks like a double standard to me.

The idea seems to be to have the fewest rules possible, while allowing the widest range of discussion of knives rather than non-knife topics. The signature lines will perhaps need regulation at some point, but few of us dwell on them to the point of discussion.

I am dwelling on it to the point of discussion. When text appears (anywhere both in posts and in signature lines) that is warm and fuzzy to the mod's personal affiliations it is fine and dandy, but if it is outlier then that is another matter.

I own nearly 25 USA OT knifes and I started buying the Taylor ones after being gifted one several years ago! I then started trying them out at Wal-Mart and then Amazon ! The Quality and price point are great for someone who needs a good working knife and wants numerous patterns.

This is the same set I bought. I love mine been carrying the trapper pretty much nonstop. I gave the little 12OT to my boss and she loves it. Liked its small and easy to open and close, I've seen her using it at work quite a bit.
B Bartleby I agree. Even though I'm still relatively new here, I say declaring ones faith or patriotism in a signature is way different than discussing them in depth in a thread. I remember quite a few non-Canadians wishing a Canadian member happy Canada day recently, as well as many non-Americans wishing us a happy 4th on our holiday. That's what the porch is about to me, be proud of where your from and we'll all be proud WITH you.

Signature lines and user names, are global items which are unchanged no matter in which BF forum one is posting. Therefore signature lines and user names are controlled by the rules of BladeForums. If they are OK on BF, they are OK here.
But what gets posted specifically in Traditional Forum discussion threads, must meet the guidelines of Traditional.

The Traditional guidelines were set up by Gus and Elliott, who created this forum some 16 years ago. Gary and I think they have been proven to work and see no reason to change them.

If somebody wants to put in their signature line "Buy American" or that they belong to an atheist society, or that they are part of a witches' cabal, that's OK by me, as long as it meets BF guidelines.

I won't infract somebody for thanking their God, whoever they think that is, that their loved one survived an accident, or if they happen to mention that they went to church. However, I will infract somebody who starts arguing why someone should or should not believe in their God when they are posting in Traditional discussion threads. There are other forums for that.

A picture of an "Imperial Schrade" IMP25 to get this thread back on track. Afterall, it is about the new owners of Schrade.

Match strike pull, nicely etched blade, ringed/rat tail bolsters, and cracked ice celluloid covers. What's not to like about this knife.

I like the looks of that one Ed, also enjoyed your write up.

I contacted Taylor Brands when they had the Schrade Company names about the "celluloid" covers.
They are not celluloid. They are an acrylic, so no possibility of outgassing - ever. :)

I decided to pick up a new Schrade 104OT to see what the quality was like these days. I was a die-hard Schrade fan for years when I was younger, so I wanted to see what the brand had to offer now that production has moved out of the U.S. I'm sorry to say that things are not going well for them. My sample came with a very proud and sharp pin, and the blade rub was so bad that when you closed the blades it would fall on top of the other blade (see pic). I will be returning the knife for sure.
