NEW RC-4 Pics

Just ordered one... cant WAIT!!! Excellent looking knife Rowan, I'm sure it'll be incredible. This will be my first RAT knife, so I'll probably become a strong supporter very shortly.:D

Lots of guys here and in W&S love the F1 (I do as well) but sometimes we hear complains about how small and how thin of a cross section it has. So far I never had problems like that probably because I never worked hard on dried hardwoods with it. BUT I have noticed that when using gloved hands it may feel too small...

How does the RC-4 handle compare with the F1? Does it feel smaller in hand? Before the RC-4 hit the market I was interested in the TAK-1. It has a bigger thicker handle but I like the sheat and finish of the RC-4. And of course we have the issue about Ontario and RAT cutlery... I need to make up my mind.

I'm in the same place Mikel, I traditionally find handles to be too small to be comfortable when a lot of folks seem to do just fine with them. I've not handled an RC3 (or 4) so I'm just going to bite the bullet and try one. You should be able to make close to your money back on a re-sale, I think, if you end up not liking it.

After seen a few pictures comparing the RC-4 and the TAK-1 I can see clearly the differences (at least in shape, thickness and such) between them. So far everyone is happy with the RC-4 and I know that if I get one I will be happy as well. My question is, will it be more comfortable in the hand than my F1? Will I be able to handle more powerful tasks with it?

I am sure I won't need to sell it Spooky and even if I did not like it, I guess I would keep it. Living in Spain doesn't make trading or selling easy!

I am planning on getting a BRKT Aurora (won't be getting a Fox River just because of the small handle) and I just wanted to get a better deal in the shipping (it is going to be like $25 whether I get a single knife or two). At first I was looking at the RAT-3 (pretty inexpensive knife), then the TAK-1 (bigger bit more expensive), then, after all the issue about Ontario and RC, I was interested in the RC-3 (smaller but pricier than the TAK-1). Now that the reailer I plan to get my knives from has some RC-4's in stock, I am looking at them (more expensive than any of the previously mentioned ones)... See what I mean? I was planning on expending less than $50 on another piece of steel and now I will probably end up getting one twice as expensive. :D :D :D

Check out the "Bushcrafting with the RC-4" thread on the next page. There are lots of in hand pictures if that helps.

Gotcha, didn't see your location. Maybe they'll be quite the commodity over there? :D I have actually been looking at the Aurora too (and managed to wiggle into a pass-around for one), good look on that decision! As far as handling larger tasks and functioning like a bigger knife than it is, I'd feel pretty comfy saying it will do that pretty smoothly. After watching all the various RC reviews and reading posts from the owners of RC, I respect what they put into blade design and testing. I doubt there is much you couldn't take on with one.

Bear's right- His thread has a lot of helpful pics, as always.

If you had to choose between the F1 and the RC-4 which would you choose? I would love to hear everyones thoughts. I love them both.

I never held one but based on the quality and comfort I think I will stick with the RAT. What I always thought was a little strange about the Falks was that they are a Swedish company but they use Japanese steel. Kind of a Sweden meets Japan. Don't get me wrong I only think the best of them. I really like the H1 model and if I ever got one I will really like I am sure. I like the 100% made in the USA idea.
