New/Recent Hinderer Scores Thread...a place to share and comment.

Welcome causacg, Housman, and it looks like JT has been busy! Nice knife JT, that grind is so awesome, thanks for sharing.

Help needed. Is this a Gen 2 or Gen 3 3" non flipper xm18 that I got recently.
According to seller, he bought this 2009 July from Rick directly.

Thanks. I thought the same and the seller said it Gen2. I just want to verify.
A very nice knife

Lol, pretty sure he was referring to the hex screws that are holding the pocket clip + filler tab (vs. the philips screws used these days)

WTH? The pic changed, the one I saw previously was of the scale side, not the lock side.

Ahhhhhh, the clip screws yeah! :D

As noted in the Generation thread:

  • XM-18 (3.0") - Generation 2 - Introduced in approximately May 2009 (Blade Show)

and:

  • Clip Screws – The clip screws are 1/8” 2-56 and they appear with a variety of heads. Torx was the first style used (T6 drive) until switching over to Allen (hex) which is 0.050” drive. Around October, 2009, the screws changed to Phillips drive and #1 works very well.

So, you can figure the knife was probably produced in the middle of 2009 when the Gen 2 XM-18 3" was first produced. I am still trying to figure out why the picture change from the scale side to the lock side. I am certain when I looked at it, it was showing the scale side.

My recent and 1st Hinderer score, XM-24 DLC black with frag scale.
As i am new to Hinderer knives, can anybody tell me more about this knife ? Thanks.

Need2know,

What is the steel used and the gen ? Approximate year of manufacture and rough estimates of how many were manufactured? Sorry if my questions seem noob. Thanks alot.

I see both photos. Scale and lock.

Wow, that is weird. When I first looked at the thread (home computer), I saw only the scale side. Then, later in the day when I was looking, I saw only the lockside and no scale side. This morning on my work computer, only the lock side was showing again, now I check again and both are showing. I am going to say that ImageShack hosting is flaky.

:)

It's is the current generation, so it's Gen 2.

It's blade steel is very likely S35VN. It probably came from a small show like one in NY/NJ or similar. It likely followed the SWAT 3.5s so it's no more than two years old or so.

As to how many...my guess is fewer than 10-20.

Biker Trash is a Black DLC junkie and may be able to educate with better detail.

An official response can provide much more certainty as well.
